Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Apr 21, 2026
In the heart of our nation’s capital, the Bible is taking center stage in two ways.
Last Wednesday, Faith & Liberty honored God’s Word and its place in our nation by holding our annual Congressional Bible Reading. Graciously hosted by Chaplain of the House Margaret Kibben from the Office of the Chaplain, several members of Congress read from various Scripture passages, and some offered comments on what they read. Rep. Robert B. Aderholt (AL-04), Congressman Ralph Norman (R-SC-5), Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05), and Rep. Harriet M. Hageman (R-Wyo.) were among the members of Congress who participated.
Before the Scripture reading, Chaplain Kibben honored our dear friend and senior vice president, Peggy Nienaber, who this month left this life for the glory of heaven. Chaplain Kibben offered kind words and a prayer remembering Peggy, whom she valued as a friend and colleague in the ministry. Senate Chaplain Barry Black also spoke in honor of Peggy. (Special note: You are invited to Peggy’s memorial service on April 30. See details here.)
Then this week, God’s Word is taking center stage at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, and Faith & Liberty is also playing a part. The America Reads the Bible event is being held April 19-25. Faith & Liberty's senior pastor, Rev. Greg Cox, will read an assigned passage today, April 21, and is among 500 total readers from all 50 states.
Christian leaders from various walks of life and ministries are participating, including: Rev. Sammy Rodriguez, National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; Dr. Ben Carson, former HUD secretary; Dallas Jenkins, creator of The Chosen; Jonathan Cahn, best-selling author and rabbi; Ambassador Mike Huckabee; Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis; Kathy Brazell, National Day of Prayer Task Force; Franklin Graham, Samaritan’s Purse; Alveda King, The Vision TV Show; and Chonda Pierce, comedian. At the Opening Celebration, House Speaker Mike Johnson shared the testimony of how he came to the Lord and grew in his faith.
President Trump also will participate in America Reads the Bible. From the Oval Office, he will read 2 Chronicles 7:11-22 where God speaks to King Solomon after the king finishes building the house of the Lord and his own house. The reading includes the well-known verse “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (v. 14).
America Reads the Bible is organized around the theme “One Week. One Nation. One Book.,” and is designed as a national moment of reflection during America’s 250th year.
Faith & Liberty is thankful for the privilege of participating in both of these special events that honor God through the public reading of His Word. Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial support that make this ministry possible!
