As any parent can tell you, a newborn babe changes everything, from life’s daily routines to family finances. Having a child turns a family's world upside down — and is one of God’s greatest gifts.

In Bible times, under Roman rule, the arrival of a newborn was even more life changing. And this one — this One — was no ordinary child. He was the firstborn of Mary, but not of Joseph, who would be the steady rock of the family once the angel revealed to him exactly who this babe was and how his betrothed, a virgin, came to be with child.

God beautifully orchestrated the unfolding of the story of His Son come to earth in the humility of humanity, in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. The Creator becomes the created — Immanuel, God with us.

Behold, He has come! And "this same Jesus,” who was taken into heaven (Acts 1:11), is coming again. He will surely come, and we must be ready!
