Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Nov 11, 2025
As we write, we are still in the midst of a government shutdown, but first we must note that today is a federal holiday for a very special reason. It is Veterans Day, and we are thankful for all of you who have served our country whether in war or peace. It is because of your dedication and sacrifice we can continue to live in this “land of the free and home of the brave.” We remember and pray for God’s blessings in your life!
We are in Day 42 of the government shutdown. While in the early stages, it may not have had a serious impact on many Americans, the closure has extended to the point it is now hurting individuals and families inside the Beltway and across the country. For one thing, simply traveling through our nation’s airports now is more than an inconvenience; it’s a serious matter of safety and security.
But nowhere is this pain felt more than in the ranks of our military, among those who truly need food assistance, and right here in our nation’s capital with the interns and staffers who work on Capitol Hill every day but who haven’t seen a paycheck in a while — and the cost of living in this area isn’t exactly low!
As you know, Faith & Liberty cannot advance religious freedom, engage with members of Congress, or encourage staffers and interns in this time of need without your faithful prayers and gifts! Please prayerfully consider giving to Faith & Liberty for the first time or supporting our ministry with a monthly recurring gift to help us fulfill our unique and vital mission.
Friends, we are so grateful to be present on Capitol Hill at this time to be able to serve many interns and congressional staffers. Not only are we physically feeding them when they come to activities at our Ministry Center, but we are also spiritually feeding them through the Word, prayer, and fellowship. We were already experiencing an influx of more people hungry for the Word, especially after Charlie Kirk’s tragic death, but now we have even more people coming when we open our doors — which is often!

We invite them to come to the table — both physically and spiritually. We are reminded, too, of the recent communion table on the National Mall, where we gathered with people from all 50 states and of all ages to repent for our national sins and remember our Lord’s sacrifice for us. It was a beautiful thing to see that communion table stretched out over a mile and a half! Not only that, but an Israel Tent and a Gen Z Tent were part of the day’s celebration.

Jesus invites us to come to the table, and here in our nation’s capital, we, in turn, invite His people and anyone who is prompted by His Holy Spirit to come and learn or simply be with us. Thank you for your prayers and financial gifts that make this possible. Please continue to pray for souls to be saved, for lives to be touched through our ministry, and for God to be glorified — even through a government shutdown!

As the government shutdown lingers (and we pray not for much longer), Peggy Nienaber continues to meet with concerned congressional staffers for prayer. Staffers are concerned as they have no paychecks coming in and the possibility of not getting paid despite showing up for work.
Faith & Liberty joined other nonprofit organizations on Capitol Hill for discussion and prayer during the shutdown. The shutdown appears to be nearly over, but we need to persevere in prayer to see it end soon.
Peggy Nienaber participated in the America250 – America Prays conference call last week. Pray with us for successful events in the coming year.
Peggy participated in the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference Zoom meeting with Rev. Samuel Rodriguez and Marc Siegel, M.D. The topic of our conversation was: The Miracles Among Us: How God’s Grace Plays a Role in Healing.
Peggy Nienaber and Patty Bills will be participating in the America250 Civics Education Coalition meeting this Wednesday. Peggy has been asked to open this meeting in prayer. Watch our emails for announcements of our America250 events for 2026.
Faith & Liberty staff will be participating in a Thrive America meeting to work on 2026 events for Amercia250 celebrations.
Peggy will be attending the Lantos Human Rights Prize Ceremony honoring Diane Foley and Rachel Goldberg-Polin, a pair of courageous mothers turned powerful advocates on behalf of the Israeli hostages and their families. This event will honor the hostages, their families, and those who fought for their release.
Thursday, Dec. 4, is the date of our Live Nativity, and we are in planning mode. Patty has been exceptionally busy securing the permits for our Live Nativity presentation of the gospel on Capitol Hill. We are also in need of volunteers for the costumed townspeople. If you are interested in participating, please call 202-737-1776 and ask for Patty Bills. She is making progress, but some matters must still be resolved. Your prayers are appreciated for everything to come together in good time!
