Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

Covering the Capital: America's Future

Jul 8, 2025

We hope you enjoyed your celebration of our national independence last week! There were plenty of displays, concerts, and events to take in on and around the Fourth of July in our nation’s capital, including fireworks on the National Mall and the National Independence Day Parade. Most of all we are thankful for the liberties we share — and aim to preserve — as U.S. citizens and for the faith and freedom at the very heart of our nation’s founding.

In a message to Congress in 1818, James Monroe, our fifth U.S. president, calls us to remember the source of our nation’s blessings:

“When we view the blessings with which our country has been favored, those which we now enjoy, and the means which we possess of handing them down unimpaired to our latest posterity, our attention is irresistibly drawn to the source from whence they flow. Let us then, unite in offering our most grateful acknowledgements for these blessings to the Divine Author of All Good.”

This understanding is embedded in our name, Faith & Liberty. We are thankful to continue discipling the bright young interns here on Capitol Hill, that they, too, might receive the blessings of divine favor and be “irresistibly drawn” to their source, “the Divine Author of All Good.”

As we look forward to our annual prayer retreat next month, we invite you to let us agree with you in prayer by name for your needs and concerns. For us, this is a quiet time to get away but not for a busy vacation; rather, this retreat is dedicated to a time to seek God for His continued direction for our ministry, to intercede wholeheartedly for our supporters, and to beseech God for revival for our nation and our leaders. Without you supporting us, both prayerfully and financially, we simply wouldn’t be here on Capitol Hill, and we couldn’t exist to fulfill the vitally important service to which God has entrusted us. Share your prayer needs at the link below — but also ask the Lord if He would have you contribute to our ministry. We thank you for praying, sharing, and giving as He leads.

Thank you!

MINISTRY RECAP
  • Our lawmakers were busy with the Big Beautiful Bill last week. Faith & Liberty prayed with and supported members of Congress as they endured the long hours and demands of negotiation in getting this bill passed into law. As a result, we rejoiced that Planned Parenthood was defunded for one year!

  • Friends from Aglow International visited to pray over our ministry, as — we are thankful — they often do.

  • Peggy Nienaber was interviewed for the podcast Esther Rising. She shared about Faith & Liberty’s Ministry Center and all the boots-on-the-ground prayer that we do. Stay tuned for the podcast release date.

COMING SOON
  • This week, Alveda King will interview Peggy for her television program, The Vision. As many of you know, Dr. King is a minister, pro-life activist, and a senior adviser to President Trump’s Faith Office. Our chairman, Mat Staver, recently interviewed Dr. King on the Freedom Alive television program, which you can watch here.

  • We will meet this week to continue planning a women’s brown bag lunch for this fall.

  • We also will participate in a dinner and lecture hosted by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise next week.

  • Our team is helping plan the She Leads America Summit in October. The group will be praying with women members of Congress along with holding briefings at the White House.

  • Our annual Prayer Retreat is coming up early next month! The prayer retreat is our time to take a day and go before God and thank Him for our supporters by name and pray for their needs. Please share your prayer needs anytime between now and the end of July so we can intercede for you by name! You may contact Patty Bills with your requests by calling 202-737-1776 or emailing [email protected].
