Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Mar 10, 2025

While there are often activities at our Ministry Center and on Capitol Hill, we are thankful for the more meditative 40-day season of Lent — although the activities continue!

We recognize that not every Christian has Lent as part of their faith practice or their church, but during this time, all of us can prepare ourselves to celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, His death on a cruel cross for our salvation, and the resurrection of His physical body.

This brings to mind the now-classic Gaither hymn “Because He Lives”:

Because he lives
I can face tomorrow
Because he lives
All fear is gone
Because I know he holds the future
And life is worth the living
Just because he lives.

Perhaps the hymn’s most powerful lyric is: “An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.” The apostle Paul declares in 1 Cor. 15:17: “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”

Easter — Resurrection Sunday — is one of the most important days of the year because it is the time we choose to celebrate our Lord’s victory over death and the grave. Let us look forward to Easter and prepare our hearts to celebrate it with hope in Christ — for this life and the next!

MINISTRY RECAP
  • Peggy Nienaber was thankful for the opportunity to participate in the Ash Wednesday service on Capitol Hill this past week.

  • Peggy also prayed with several groups prior to President Trump’s joint address to Congress last Tuesday. They prayed in the congressional buildings with members of Congress and congressional staffers.

Peggy met with prayer warrior Rev. Pat Mahoney. They have worked together on Capitol Hill for more than 30 years.

  • Peggy attended a small gathering with former Ambassador Sam Brownback and other groups to discuss the App Accountability Act that has become an important issue for families.
  • As the Lenten season is upon us, Peggy walks daily with staffers on Capitol Hill, completing the 40 days of one mile a day matched with 40 days of a scripture challenge.

COMING SOON
  • This week, we’ll have a visit from Senior Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who prayed during President Trump’s inauguration, at our Ministry Center.
  • Peggy will participate in a Zoom call with Chaplain Margaret Kibben to hear more of the plans for the U.S. House Chaplain’s Ministry Fair. Faith & Liberty will participate in the Ministry Fair on April 2, which is also the same day an abortion case (Medina vs. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic) comes before the Supreme Court, so protests are expected.
  • Peggy will participate in the National Faith Advisory Board conference call featuring the leaders of the White House Faith Office this week.
  • Intercessors from Aglow will be dropping by this week to pray for the ministry of Faith & Liberty.
  • We are planning for the U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Recognition in March.
  • We are sending invitations and setting up reservations for our Congressional Bible Reading in April.
  • Patty Bills will be hosting a luncheon with the SUMC Sewing Circle to follow up on December’s Live Nativity event and thank them for their work on the new costumes.
