Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Dec 9, 2024

Our Live Nativity was a beautiful celebration of Jesus coming to earth, taking on human form to be “Immanuel,” which means “God with us.” The nation’s capital saw this glorious event come to life — from Jesus, Mary, and Joseph to the ornately costumed kings from afar, not to mention a wonderfully social camel named Delilah, along with sheep, goats, a donkey, and a rather unusual cow. The townspeople and angels danced as they rejoiced over this newborn babe.

Every year we do this — and we’ve been doing it now for 21 years — we see how people on the Hill are gripped by this unusual sight! Walking from our Ministry Center with animals in tow, people often come out of their houses and drivers (including cab drivers) stop to take in the view. After all, how often do you see such a sight? Visitors to the Library of Congress also watch with amazement. Police officers take a moment for pictures as we walk along the south side of the Supreme Court where the Justices’ chambers are, and they and their staff can look right out the window as we pass by in all our costumed finery. This reenactment truly captures the imagination!

Thank you to our many volunteers and to our wonderful supporters who helped make it possible to have 43 new costumes handmade this year. Thank you, too, to the many congressional staffers who came to witness this production.

Year after year, we have the privilege of presenting the Live Nativity on Capitol Hill and look forward to it next year once more! Please call Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776 if you’re interested in being a part in December 2025.

This is one of our biggest events, and we can’t do it without your prayers and support. Thank you for helping to share the gospel in such a powerful way!

MONDAY RECAP
  • On Tuesday evening, we enjoyed the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting on the West Lawn of the Capitol, which is also where we co-host the Bible Reading Marathon. Speaker Mike Johnson reminded us of the real reason for the season.
  • Peggy Nienaber and Patty Bills attended the Carols in the Capitol event hosted by Speaker Mike Johnson’s office Wednesday evening. Congressman Pete Sessions and Senator Marsha Blackburn opened this special program in prayer.
  • Faith & Liberty staff members were able to take a special tour of the White House, which we thoroughly enjoyed!

  • Prayer groups on the Hill have been actively interceding for the outcome of last Wednesday’s transgender case at the Supreme Court.

COMING SOON
  • Women of Ministry in Washington, D.C., are meeting for an end-of-year reflection dinner tonight, and we are delighted to join them!

  • On Jan. 20, the morning of the presidential inauguration, our team will be helping two other ministries hand out 50,000 Bibles for those attending the ceremony.

  • We will also host a meet-and-greet for Faith & Liberty supporters coming for the inauguration. Let us know if you will be in Washington for the festivities around the presidential inauguration and can stop by the Ministry Center. Please call Patty Bills at 202-737-1776 or email her at [email protected].

  • Peggy Nienaber will be meeting with new members of Congress after they have been sworn into office. This will give us time to pray with them and invite their staffers to our Bible studies and events held at the Ministry Center.

  • During inauguration week, we have our pro-life events (as we usually do in January). Stay tuned for more on those activities, including our LIFE Reception at our Ministry Center. And the remembering the pre-born flowers and Prayer visual event where 3000 flowers are laying in front of the Supreme Court.
