Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Dec 4, 2024
Tomorrow is the big day!
Faith and Liberty’s Live Nativity is coming tomorrow to our nation’s capital! An attention-getting spectacle of the Holy Family, along with the Wise Men, shepherds, townspeople, angels, and a live camel, donkey, and sheep will journey around Capitol Hill — by the Senate office buildings, across from the U.S. Capitol — and in front of the U.S. Supreme Court!
When we arrive at the Supreme Court, the account of the Nativity found in Luke, chapter 2, will be read. This year, the reading will have a more dramatic flair as we tell the remarkable story of the incarnation. There is nothing else like it in Washington, D.C., as we challenge our nation’s public policy makers with the revelation of Jesus, Our Salvation.
What a powerful concept we find in His simple name, Jesus.
“Jesus” is the Greek translation of Joshua — which means “The Lord saves” or “The Lord our Salvation.” But what joy, what depth is found in the simple word “saves.” It means to be brought into wide open spaces, to be set free, to be delivered. Think of it as being lost in a deep, dark cave — and then someone comes and delivers us from our confinement and brings us out into wide open meadows. We can breathe! We are alive! THAT IS SALVATION!
And that’s God’s promise to us. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, we are set free from what binds us, the sin that constrains, chokes, and limits us!
That’s our message to our leaders in Washington through the Live Nativity. It doesn’t matter how much power you wield or how much people patronize you to get what they want or how many fancy cars are in your motorcade. We are all bound by sin — and in need of someone to rescue us and bring us into the wide open spaces of God’s grace.
That salvation is found in Jesus.
As Peter told the power brokers of ancient Israel, "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
And right now, during the Christmas season, hearts and minds are open in ways unlike any other time of year. Please help us make good use of these open hearts and minds by supporting the Live Nativity on Capitol Hill!
Tomorrow is the day! If you have not yet had the opportunity to make an investment in this unique gospel witness, you can still do so now.
