Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Dec 3, 2024
In just TWO MORE DAYS, we will celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ when the Live Nativity dramatically comes to Capitol Hill! The angels, shepherds, and Wise Men, along with Mary, Joseph, the Baby Jesus, a live donkey, and sheep reenact the first Nativity right in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Will you help us RIGHT NOW by sending the most generous gift possible to help us fund the Live Nativity? Select here to help!
The Live Nativity bears witness to that extraordinary night when Heaven interrupted the earthly routine as the birth of Immanuel, God with us, was heralded by the angelic host!
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” (Luke 2:13-14)
Many are familiar with this story, but there is something powerful here you may not realize.
What is the heavenly host? The word translated “host” is a military term for a group of soldiers. We’ve seen this “heavenly host” before — usually with swords drawn, ready to do battle against the enemies of God!
Before the battle for Jericho, Joshua fell before the captain of the host of the LORD: “Joshua … lifted up his eyes, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua … said to him, ‘Are you for us or for our adversaries?’ He said, ‘No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the LORD’” (Joshua 5:13-14).
David, before his fight with Goliath, testified: "You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel” (1 Samuel 17:45).
Elisha, threatened by his enemies, prayed his servant’s eyes would be opened to see the heavenly host: “And the LORD opened the servant's eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire” (2 Kings 6:17).
And, Micaiah, when prophesying the death of King Ahab, said, “I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left” (1 Kings 22:19).
This HOST is the LORD’s heavenly army, ready for battle with swords drawn to FIGHT against the enemies of God. BUT NOT ON THIS GLORIOUS NIGHT! On this night, their message is not one of DEATH and DESTRUCTION but of PEACE! On this night, the armies of God declare that Jesus Christ, God, is now in the world, reconciling the world to Himself.
And that is the message of the Live Nativity to our national leaders — and to all who read this note. Peace, whether in their own hearts, or in the nation, or around the world, is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. HE IS OUR PEACE!
Will you stand with us in your prayers and through your generous investments as we bring the Gospel of Peace to our nation’s capital?
