Only eight days before the Live Nativity, and we are following the star straight to Capitol Hill!

Matthew 2 tells the story of the arrival of the Wise Men. “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the East, and are come to worship him’ … and, lo, the star, which they saw in the East, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.”

This Christmas star is a great mystery. Many believe the star was actually an alignment of the planets that would indicate an important event occurring in the house of Judah. Others think it perhaps was an exploding star, and still others a comet.

Whatever it was, this celestial spectacle, this cosmic event, was timed perfectly to coincide with the coming of the Messiah, making it all the more miraculous! And it guided the Magi to the place where they would find Jesus.

Paul told the church at Corinth that prophecy was for believers, but signs were for unbelievers. So it is that angels proclaimed the message of the birth of Christ to the Jewish shepherds, but for the Gentile Wise Men, it came in the form of a star — a literal sign from Heaven!

What an incredible fulfillment of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “Arise, shine; for thy light is come … And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.”

When our fully costumed Wise Men stand near the Supreme Court, they are reminding our legislators, executives, and Justices where light and wisdom are to be found. While scholars and academics may bring data and information, true wisdom and knowledge are only found in Jesus Christ, the Light of the World!

As arrogance, cynicism, and skepticism flood our national hallways of power, our leaders need to be reminded that wisdom and knowledge come from above. Do you see why our Live Nativity is so important?

It stands as a declaration of the Gospel, a visible reminder that CHRIST is the reason for Christmas — and that all, including our national leaders, should seek Him with the same fervor as did the Magi.
