Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

A Miracle in the Chaos

Nov 22, 2024

Perhaps the one word which might best describe America’s political culture in our nation today is chaos, a state of utter confusion or disorder. To be certain, life in America can be confusing. But at Faith & Liberty, we believe there is an answer to the confusion, disorder, and chaos not only here on the Hill, but also in every person’s life.

That’s why on December 5, 2024, we will present our Live Nativity on Capitol Hill. This unusual event, complete with live animals and real people reenacting the glorious scene from Luke Chapter 2, will help ALL of Washington, D.C., focus on the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, during this Christmas season. But we need YOUR help to make this happen. We have just 12 days to make the Live Nativity a success.

Your generous support is needed RIGHT NOW to put Jesus Christ – the Reason for the Season – front and center in Washington, DC!

You might ask why we take the time, effort, and extraordinary expense of conducting a complete Live Nativity at the seat of government. First, with all the bitterness, strife, and division — with all the chaos — plaguing our nation’s capital, the Live Nativity serves as a beautiful reminder to all of our elected politicians, appointed officials, staff, residents, and millions of Christmas tourists in Washington, D.C., that America was founded as a Christian nation and that JESUS is STILL the Reason for the Season.

But also, and perhaps even more importantly, every aspect of the Nativity story is relevant to our present daily life, even over 2,000 years later.

If there is one lesson we can all learn from the last four years in America, it is this: Life can be chaotic, but even in the face of what may feel like unprecedented confusion, God offers peace in the most chaotic times.

Mary and Joseph certainly experienced this in the days leading up to the birth of Christ. The Gospel of Luke tells us, “And it came about in those days that a decree went out from Caesar.”

The miracle of the birth of Christ begins with reference to the actions of a powerful world figure living far away from the little village of Nazareth that was home to Joseph and Mary. Caesar decides to take a census. The result? Mary and Joseph are forced to make the dangerous trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Caesar’s whim brought chaos upon Mary and Joseph. While they were aware of God’s promise, they still had to make the difficult journey and trust God for the results.

Life is often like that. The State seems to randomly act, and our lives are significantly disrupted. That disruption can be confusing, even chaotic.

Yet, often behind these seemingly random acts is the unseen hand of God, working out His purposes. While confusing events for Mary and Joseph were unfolding according to the plans of a pagan emperor — disrupting lives and creating chaos — in reality, God was at work, fulfilling His divine promise to bring forth a Savior who would split the centuries and bring redemption to each one of us.

That’s part of why we do the Live Nativity: To remind our nation’s leaders, regardless of political party or affiliation, whether they like it or not, that while they plan and legislate public policy, there is a God in heaven who directs the affairs of men and to whom we are all accountable — even representatives, senators, Supreme Court Justices, and presidents!

You see, there is just something about seeing the figures of the Holy Family on Capitol Hill that makes for a spectacle no one can ignore! It’s a stirring image, a reminder to powerful forces on Capitol Hill of who Jesus is and a stark example of just how much the gospel is needed in our nation, perhaps today as never before.

And it’s also a reminder to every one of us that, regardless of how things may seem, there is still a God who is in control. As the Psalmist declared: The Lord foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations (Psalm 33:10-11).

That’s exactly what your generous donation in support of the Live Nativity is doing. Through your gifts, you are helping us reach out to our nation’s leaders with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and prophetically declare the purposes of God!
