Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Apr 29, 2024

This is an important week as we focus our prayers for the nation and for our leaders.

Rooftop Prayer is an annual event that takes place in many countries. Our focus in Washington, D.C., will be Capitol Hill. We thank the Lord for opening special rooms in the Capitol building for us to gather. Meeting in such a strategic and historic place for prayer over Capitol Hill and its influence over our nation brings a beautiful solemnity and significance to this prayer gathering.

After Rooftop Prayer sets our focus, we will continue with National Day of Prayer events and much more as the week progresses. See more details below, and please join us to pray from your homes, offices, churches, wherever you may be, this week. We know that “where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20).

MONDAY RECAP

Peggy Nienaber participated in Tuesday evening’s Prayer Vigil concerning the Supreme Court case Idaho v. United States regarding prohibiting abortions unless necessary to save the life of the mother. Peggy also attended the rally Wednesday after the oral argument.

Our new breakfast Bible Study began Friday morning. Interns and staffers are tackling the topic of systematic theology. Also, the Monday Club study continues in the Gospel of John, and in the Tuesday evening study, Exodus is our focus.

The Faith & Liberty team participated in the closing ceremony of the 35th annual U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon. Toward the end of the 90-hour marathon, we read the book of Revelation as a group and sang God Bless America. That’s a wrap for this year! We were thankful to reach hundreds of people who walked by and some who stopped to read God’s Word.

What a day of fellowship we had Saturday at the clothing swap! Our Ministry Center opened its doors to help women congressional staffers and interns who work on Capitol Hill to shop for second-hand clothing on a budget. We enjoyed popcorn and lemonade and made new friends, which also gives us an opportunity to invite them to church or our Bible studies.

COMING SOON

The Faith & Liberty team will co-host the annual Rooftop Prayer Encounter tomorrow morning in the U.S. Capitol. We will focus our prayers on the nation’s capital.

Peggy Nienaber will attend the Washington A Man of Prayer event, which is now in its 13th year. Members of Congress will gather in Statuary Hall for an annual reenactment celebrating the inauguration day of the first president and the first act of the Congress.

Peggy will meet this week with pastors on Capitol Hill and with leaders from She Leads America. They will plan for upcoming events and outreach programs to those on Capitol Hill.

Thursday, May 2, is the National Day of Prayer. Peggy Nienaber will participate in Wednesday evening’s National Day of Prayer Celebration Dinner with the theme “Prepare in Prayer” and the Congressional National Observance on Capitol Hill.

Worship leader Sean Feucht will draw many to worship and pray for congressional staffers in the Russell Senate Office Building on Thursday morning in observance of the National Day of Prayer.

PRAYER

Pray for behind-the-scenes logistics and security for all of the prayer activities on Capitol Hill this week and for those traveling to Washington to participate.

Thank the Lord for security around the Supreme Court this past week with the Idaho abortion and Trump immunity cases.

Our new Friday morning Bible study is off to a good start! Pray for the participants as they learn about God’s character through the study of systematic theology.

Pray for continued “divine appointments” for Faith & Liberty on Capitol Hill.

Pray for our leaders, as Paul commanded in 1 Timothy 2, and pray for our nation to acknowledge God in all of our ways.
