Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Apr 22, 2024
God's Word has been on our hearts and minds this week as we’ve participated in two Bible reading events. There's a beautiful confluence on our calendar when Bible reading flows into our emphasis on prayer with the Rooftop Prayer and the National Day of Prayer events soon to come. Public Scripture reading and prayer are powerful tools in our witness for Christ on Capitol Hill.
America needs that witness! Our hearts break as we observe the protests in D.C. and in major cities over significant issues, including life and Israel. Our country is split down the middle. A house divided cannot stand — and neither can a nation.
Join us in repentant prayers and petitions for our nation. When Paul wrote 1 Timothy, he instructed that prayer be made for “all people,” especially those in positions of authority in government. Our leaders need this, and many appreciate it.
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way” (1 Tim. 2:1-2).
This is, of course, our primary focus of prayer on Capitol Hill. We pray for you, too, according to Ephesians 6:18: “Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.”
Thank you for standing with us for faith, freedom, and America!

On Wednesday, the Faith & Liberty team held the 2nd Congressional Bible Reading in the U.S. Capitol. We had members of Congress from both parties sign up and come to read from the New Testament at the House Chaplain’s office. One member brought her children to participate in this most important event. All in all, we are thankful it was a successful event with the members who had to navigate through floor votes and committee schedules to participate.
The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon is well underway! Saturday was the 35th opening ceremony drawing pastors from several states to start the reading marathon. Seedline International brought a crew of 30 people to assist with the tables and sign-ups from tourists walking by who wanted to participate. Patty Bills and Peggy Nienaber read during the opening ceremony. The marathon will run nonstop for 90 hours on the west lawn of the Capitol.
Peggy met and prayed with Texas Congressman Michael Cloud.
Peggy also met and prayed with Bunni Pounds, founder and president of Christians Engaged, who shared her book Jesus and Politics with members of Congress.
Faith & Liberty’s team held Rock Wednesday for congressional staffers to be able to gather for private prayer.
COMING SOON
Peggy Nienaber will participate in tomorrow evening’s Prayer Vigil regarding the Supreme Court case Idaho v. United States regarding prohibiting abortions unless necessary to save the life of the mother. A rally also will be held Wednesday after oral argument.
Our new breakfast Bible Study begins Friday morning. Interns and staffers will gather for a delicious breakfast and will be fortified to begin this study on the topic of systematic theology.
The Faith & Liberty team will co-host the annual Rooftop Prayer Encounter, which will be held Tuesday morning, April 30, in the U.S. Capitol. We will focus our prayers on the nation’s capital.
Thursday, May 2, is the National Day of Prayer. Peggy Nienaber will participate in the National Day of Prayer Celebration Dinner with the theme “Prepare in Prayer” and the Congressional National Observance on Capitol Hill.
PRAYERPraise the Lord for good participation from our legislators for Faith & Liberty’s 2nd Congressional Bible Reading at the Capitol.
Thank the Lord that the permit came through so that the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon could be held on the Capitol grounds! We were glad to support Seedline in this annual Bible marathon.
Thank the Lord that our new Thursday evening Bible study got off to a good start! Pray for the next new Bible study to start well this Friday morning.
Pray for security around the Supreme Court this week with the Idaho abortion case being heard Wednesday and the Trump immunity case Thursday. Roads have been blocked off and fencing is up as many protesters are expected to make sure their voices are heard.
Pray for the leaders of our nation, as Paul commanded in I Timothy 2, and pray for America to bless God!
