A rare solar eclipse today is drawing attention across the country and here in Washington, D.C., as well. We will join with staffers and interns to attend the Eclipse on the Mall event to see this heavenly phenomenon — complete with NASA eye protection!

Some have interpreted today’s eclipse as one to watch for its spiritual significance. What we do know for sure is we always must look for the coming of our Lord in the heavens in the same way the risen Christ ascended.

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11, emphasis added).

So, with the early church, we say, “Maranatha!” or “Come, Lord!” as we anticipate that great and awesome day when Jesus will return, this time as a King, to whom every knee shall bow.

His Second Coming is a heavenly event all followers of Christ should long and look for — and we pray for His soon return! Revelation 22:20 ends with this: “‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”

So today, whether or not you don eclipse glasses, let us remember to be alert to what God is doing in the times in which we live.

While we are still on this earth, we will be diligent in the vital mission to which our Lord has called us. Thank you for interceding for Faith & Liberty and for giving as the Lord leads you.

• Two new Bible studies are starting, one on Thursday evening and the other on Friday morning.

• Faith & Liberty will co-host a women’s fellowship and activity event, “Paint Your Heart Out,” this Saturday. What seems like an arts & craft night is really a night of fellowship with interns and staffers, a time to pray together and to get to know these young adults.

• At the Call to the Capitols event this Saturday, women will gather to pray, take communion, and stand for truth at the U.S. Capitol from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Stand, Pray and Fast for our nation.

• We will host the Congressional Bible Reading at the House Chaplain’s office on Wednesday, April 17, for members of Congress to read from the Scriptures in the U.S. Capitol.

• The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon will start Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m., and continue for 90 hours. If you would like to read the Bible during this marathon, please contact our office and ask for Patty Bills for available times.

• On April 24, a rally and prayer vigil will be held regarding the Supreme Court case Idaho v. United States, a case regarding prohibiting abortions unless necessary to save the life of the mother.

• The annual Rooftop Prayer event will be held in late April. We are thankful to host this event in the U.S. Capitol!
