Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Apr 1, 2024

The Lord has been opening up wonderful opportunities for Faith & Liberty, and we know it is not without prayer — ours and yours — that such favor is granted on Capitol Hill.

We often pray for “divine appointments” because we know where our help comes from.

“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Ps. 121:2).

“So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’” (Heb. 13:6).

We look to the Lord for His favor, for that is much better than man’s opinions that often sway with the political winds of the day.

Like Caleb who “had a different spirit” and fully followed God (Num. 14:24) and Esther who stood up to a pagan king to help save Israel from genocide (Est. 2:17; 5:2), we want God to use us for His glory. We pray He will continue to go before us and that His favor will surround us.

“For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield” (Ps. 5:12).

Thank you for your ongoing prayers for Faith & Liberty as we bear witness to our God and His glorious gospel. We are grateful, too, for your generous gifts that we might continue serving in our calling to our nation’s capital.

THE MONDAY RECAP
  • Peggy Nienaber was asked to open the Values Action Summit in prayer for the group and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. This photo from last week’s event also includes Congressman Robert Aderholt in prayer.

  • Faith & Liberty has held a Good Friday service for 20 years on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol, as we did this year. This is always a special service as we remember and reflect on the meaning of the cross of Calvary.

  • We believe it is important the week before any holiday to meet for prayer and fellowship with staffers on the Hill who cannot travel home for the holiday. Peggy and this happy staffer enjoyed their time together with the capital’s famous cherry blossom lemonade.
  • It was a week of controversy in front of the U.S. Supreme Court as protesters and speakers showed up outside as the Court heard oral argument on chemical abortion. The Faith & Liberty team held a prayer rally through the mob of people. This group of protesters clearly came with evil intent.

  • We followed up with those who won our door prize giveaway from last month's Ministry Fair. This gave Peggy Nienaber another opportunity to visit with the staffers and interns.

COMING SOON
  • The solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, is drawing attention across the country and here in Washington, D.C., as well. We will attend the Eclipse on the Mall event to see this heavenly phenomenon and enjoy fellowship with staffers and interns.

  • We will host the Congressional Bible Reading at the House Chaplain’s office on Wednesday, April 17, for members of Congress to read from the Scriptures in the U.S. Capitol.

  • The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon will start Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m., and continue for 90 hours on the west plaza of the U.S. Capitol. If you would like to read the Bible during this marathon, please contact our office for available times.

  • Faith & Liberty will co-host a women’s fellowship and activity event, “Paint Your Heart Out,” this month for women on the Hill.

  • The annual Rooftop Prayer event will be held in late April. We are thankful to host this event in the U.S. Capitol!

PRAYER

Pray for a favorable pro-life decision to come out of last week’s Supreme Court case on the abortion pill. Thank the Lord for His protection despite the large number of protesters who were not on the side of life.

Pray for the key leaders of our country, that they would exalt the name of above all names. Pray for Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and for his leadership team.

Pray for the logistics and last-minute arrangements to fall into place for the two upcoming Bible Reading Marathons.

Pray also for the details for the annual Rooftop Prayer event in the U.S. Capitol. We continue to praise the Lord for the prime location He opened up for us to pray over the city and nation!
