Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Mar 25, 2024
Tomorrow is critical for life on Capitol Hill and across America. We were present and in prayer when Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, and we plan to be present and in prayer again when the U.S. Supreme Court hears a significant case tomorrow on the abortion pill, mifepristone (RU-486).
What is at stake? Consider that this drug is used in 63% of abortions in the U.S., according to data just reported by the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute. Nearly two-thirds of preborn lives may have been saved if there were no such thing as a chemical abortion.
And what a week for this case to be heard! On Good Friday this week, Christians mark the cruel death of Jesus on the cross. Reflecting on His death, a beautiful contemporary hymn, “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us,” comes to mind:
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss –
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.
Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life –
I know that it is finished.
I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom;
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer;
But this I know with all my heart –
His wounds have paid my ransom.
Our heavenly Father suffered as His Son died in a cruel manner. He is also surely revolted by the coldhearted bloody killing of the most innocent among us!
When Dobbs overturned Roe, protesters chained themselves to fences outside the High Court or soaked themselves in fake blood holding baby dolls, simulating bleeding out because "safe abortion” would no longer be available.
Christ's wounds paid the ransom for these mockers and the scoffers who see the taking of unborn life as necessary to their happiness. Just as He did for you and me, Jesus shed His own blood for protesters and for any parent so deceived by the promise of life after abortion. Thanks be to God for His mercy and grace!
Pray with us for the Supreme Court case tomorrow — and worship with us as we exalt Jesus, the name above all names to which every knee will bow (Phil. 2:9-11)!
