Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Mar 4, 2024

Thursday will be a big night in Washington, D.C. It will be Joe Biden’s third State of the Union address as he speaks on the state of the nation and on his administration’s priorities.

The annual address often reveals the division in our country. We see this as both Republican and Democrat members stand and applaud mostly along party lines.

It is also expected that Biden will sharply contrast the differences between the two parties in this critical presidential election year and ask, “Whose side are you on?” The big subjects of the economy, border security, and the wars in Ukraine and Gaza are sure to be addressed.

So, how should we pray for America at this significant time?

Faith & Liberty is a nonpartisan ministry, and we pray for the members and leaders of all parties. We look to the Scriptures for guidance, and praise God for those in power who seek the Lord in their personal and professional lives. We know that a house divided cannot stand, so we pray for truth and unity, for the welfare of our country, for God’s will to be done, and that He would be exalted above all.

We’ll be doing a prayer walk that day with students from Cedarville University, and we invite you to also find a time of focused prayer for our nation. Many ministries will be praying regarding the State of the Union and its implications. If you would like to join Liberty Counsel and Liberty Counsel Action, together they will hold a Prayer Briefing this Thursday at noon EST. They invite you to call 681-999-0207 and dial access code 542574 to listen to some informative reports and pray along with these ministries.

Please also see our prayer points below. Thank you for your prayerful watch care of our ministry and our nation!

We leave you with this guidance on how to pray:

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth” (I Tim. 2:1-4).

THE MONDAY RECAP
  • Our Congressional Bible Study met Tuesday. It’s a small but powerful group, and we are working through the Psalms.
  • Yesterday was the last Sunday women’s Bible study. We were thankful for the time to fellowship and examine the book of Daniel together.
  • Peggy had a few individual meetings with members of Congress.
  • The 23 Cedarville University students we were anticipating have arrived and will be volunteering with various ministries on Capitol Hill. We are also planning a prayer walk with them for Thursday, the day of the State of the Union address.

COMING SOON
  • This week on Capitol Hill the Cedarville U. students will meet with U.S. House of Representatives Chaplain Margaret Kibben and U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry Black, along with meeting and hearing from Jonathan Alexandre and Peggy Nienaber about the ministry we do on Capitol Hill.
  • We will have a prayer night Thursday at the Ministry Center with the Cedarville interns and representatives from local ministries. We’ll be praying and praising at various prayer stations. We will intercede for our country and safety in the days ahead, and for members of Congress and their staff who have been working long hours.
  • The Ministry Fair is slated for next month. Over 300 congressional staffers and members of Congress are expected to attend this event organized by House Chaplain Margaret Kibben.
  • The annual Rooftop Prayer event will be held in late April. (Please see our prayer point below for more details.)

PRAYER

Pray for divine appointments for our Faith & Liberty team with members of Congress, key leaders, staffers, interns, and supporters of this ministry.

Pray that the Congressional Bible Study will draw members and staffers who have never attended and that God’s Word will go forth in power.

Pray that our many Bible studies in our Ministry Center and across D.C. will bear spiritual fruit in souls saved and discipled in the faith.

Pray for a rooftop location here in Washington for the annual Rooftop Prayer event in late April, so the time is short. We are working on a couple of possibilities! This is part of Rooftop Prayer times going on the same day around the world.

Pray for the Cedarville University interns in the capital this week, that God will direct and use each of these young people, and that they will be a blessing wherever they serve.
