Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Feb 12, 2024

Many will be celebrating Valentine’s Day this week, so it seems a special time to celebrate the love of God for us all. It is, after all, His love that ultimately drives our service to Him and to every person in our orbit here on Capitol Hill. But before we know His love for others, we must know it for ourselves.

Let’s reflect on what this divine love does for and through us:

God’s love takes away our fear. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18).

God’s love reassures us. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 8:38-39).

God’s love was given to us when we couldn’t help ourselves. When did God show His love to us? When we were spiritually dead! We were in no shape to do anything to help ourselves. “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners (Rom. 5:8).

God’s love came to our rescue! “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved” (Eph. 2:4).

God’s love makes way for the Holy Spirit in our lives. “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Rom. 5:5). So what should we do with this all-consuming love of God?

God’s love is immeasurable! “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God” (Eph. 3:18-19).

God’s love drives us to live for Him. “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again” (2 Cor. 5:14-15).

God’s love compels us to love others in His name. “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:11-12).

We have much to be thankful for this Valentine’s Day and every day of our lives! We pray that the love of God constrains us as we walk out the gospel and contend for faith, freedom and the family here in our nation’s capital.

Thank you for supporting, prayerfully and financially, this great work to which the Lord has called us. May you, too, know the love of God in a new and powerful way this week!

  • Ash Wednesday falls on the same day as Valentine’s Day this year. We are notifying members of Congress and their staffers of services they can attend to mark Ash Wednesday if they so desire.

  • The Congressional Bible Study meets tomorrow. We are studying the Psalms and singing His praises through prayer.

  • Peggy Nienaber also has three scheduled one-on-one prayer times with individual members of Congress.

  • We are continuing preparations for the Ministry Fair in March.

PRAYER

Pray that we would faithfully demonstrate God’s love to those we serve on Capitol Hill.
