Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Jan 29, 2024
People from across the country, many in the capital for the March for Life, were able to attend our annual Prayers of Remembrance — Victims of Roe memorial service last Monday, Jan. 22. It was a special time of honoring the unborn lives lost to abortion since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973.
Prayers and reflections were offered during the memorial program, then 3,000 carnations were laid across the Supreme Court steps. Faith & Liberty’s staff prayed and worshipped in front of the High Court.
This year, we were privileged to watch some special moments. A D.C. city streets worker stopped by to lay flowers in remembrance, and a family had each of their seven children lay flowers on the Court steps. It’s wonderful to see these parents teaching their children about the right to life.
We are all grateful for the overturning of Roe on June 24, 2022, a reversal that took 50 years to accomplish, but we must not forget the babies who lost their lives because of the Court’s initial ruling. We will continue to lay 3,000 carnations yearly in memory of these dear ones. Each of these children — a son or daughter, a sibling, a grandchild to someone — remind us it is important to remember what America is capable of when we do not value God’s creation in the womb.
Thank you for standing with us for the right to life!

THE MONDAY RECAP
After our memorial program last Monday, pro-life leaders and staff met for lunch and a reflection time. We also used this time to discuss 2024’s plans with the pro-life organizations represented. This year, we plan to focus on volunteering to assist the women who need to make a decision for life.
Peggy Nienaber met with women of several local churches to plan the 2024 Women’s Retreat for this Fall.
We look forward to attending the National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance at the Museum of the Bible this Wednesday, January 31, the National Day of Prayer. Members of the Congress and members of Parliament from various nations are expected to attend the gathering along with evangelical leaders and intercessors.
Peggy Nienaber will attend the U.S. Congressional Prayer event in the U.S. Capitol this Thursday. Members of Congress will come together for this special time of prayer.
Peggy also will attend the Christian Embassy’s International Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., this week.
Peggy will be meeting with Dennis Pethers, founder of The Rooftop, this week to discuss the next rooftop prayer encounter to be held in D.C. on April 30.
Faith & Liberty will participate on March 21st in the Congressional Ministry Fair sponsored by the U.S. House Chaplain Margaret Kibben. This will give us another opportunity to connect with congressional staffers, employees, and members of Congress.
The U.S. Capital Bible Reading Marathon is in the works for April. We are also working on hosting a time of Congressional Bible Reading for the second time.
Thank the Lord for those who participated in both our Life Reception and Prayers of Remembrance — Victims of Roe Memorial service. Pray that the hearts of those who participated will be stirred and that God will lead them to commit to help in the cause of life.
Thank the Lord for the safety of event organizers and participants who came from across the country to celebrate life.
Pray for an increase in finances to support families in need and for the release of more volunteers into this great harvest (Matt. 9:38).
Pray for parents who have made wrong choices in the past, that they would know God’s forgiveness and healing.
Thank the Lord for the many babies saved since the June 2022 Dobbs decision that ended Roe v. Wade. Most of all, pray for an end to abortion in our land!
