Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jan 22, 2024

Today marks 51 years since Roe v. Wade gave way to a flood of abortions in America. That is why January 22 is designated the National Sanctity of Human Life Day.

Although Roe was overturned June 24, 2022, with the Supreme Court’s reversal in the Dobbs ruling, for a half-century, our country encouraged the death of preborn babies for any reason and at any stage of development. More than 64 million innocent children were brutally killed by abortion. Today, we choose to remember them in our Prayers of Remembrance — Victims of Roe Memorial, which is being held in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. We and other like-minded friends will lay 3,000 carnations in memory of these dear children. While the weather is frigid, we still believe this is important to remember what America is capable of when we do not value God’s creation.

Last week, despite flight changes and cancellations due to the weather, thousands came to Washington from across the country for the 51st annual March for Life. It’s always wonderful to see people from all generations and different walks of life gather to send a message that we will not stand for the indiscriminate deaths of preborn children.

We will continue fighting the battle to make the womb a safe place again, and we know that no matter where you are today, you stand with us in the battle for life in the states. Thank you!

THE MONDAY RECAP

  • Faith & Liberty hosted a LIFE Reception at the Ministry Center last Friday, January 19. We were grateful to host this special time with key pro-life leaders, including Alveda King, a niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Patty Bills attended a Pastor’s Dinner with 70 pro-life pastors who came to the capital this year for events surrounding the March for Life. This movement aims to see national pro-life leaders working together to shift the pro-abortion tide in America.

  • Peggy Nienaber attended Thursday’s 11th Annual Law of Life Summit in Washington, D.C. The was an exclusive gathering of pro-life leaders, lawyers, media, advocates, and influencers who came together around the March for Life event.

  • Peggy also facilitated Rock Wednesday, our monthly prayer time on Capitol Hill last week.

  • Twenty-seven young people joined a local church we work with over the weekend. Praise the Lord for these young people, some who we work with at Faith & Liberty, growing in their faith and becoming committed to the church.

  • Twenty-three interns of high school age came to Washington last week, and we connected with them as they learn more about the America’s history and the federal government.  We were able to go to the U.S. Supreme Court to hear oral arguments on Tuesday.

  • Twenty interns came to game night last Friday night at the Ministry Center, so we’re thankful for their fellowship with each other.

COMING SOON

  • We look forward to attending the National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance at the Museum of the Bible next Wednesday, January 31, the National Day of Prayer. Members of the Congress and members of Parliament from various nations are expected to attend the gathering along with evangelical leaders and intercessors.

  • Faith & Liberty will participate on March 21 in the Congressional Ministry Fair sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives Chaplain Margaret Kibben. This will give us an opportunity to connect with congressional staffers, employees, and members of Congress.

  • The Bible Reading Marathon is in the works for April. We are also working on hosting a time of Congressional Bible Reading for the second time.

PRAYER

We continue our focus on life today with our Prayers of Remembrance — Victims of Roe Memorial service. Thank the Lord for Faith & Liberty’s Life Reception last Friday.

Pray it will become unthinkable to end the life of a child in the womb! Pray that the church would come to the aid of parents in distress.

Pray for parents who have made wrong choices in the past, that they would know God’s forgiveness and healing.

Pray against evil forces that would seek to destroy the unity of those who are gathering for pro-life events in D.C. and across America. Pray for safety for the event organizers and participants.

Thank the Lord for the many babies saved since the June 2022 Dobbs decision that ended Roe v. Wade.

Most of all, pray for an end to abortion in our land!
