Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jan 8, 2024

A 2023 article in Forbes reflects on the newest generation to enter the workforce — Gen Z. Most of the interns we mentor and minister to are in this age range. So what concerns are on their hearts?

Right now, new interns are coming to gain life and career experience in the federal government here in Washington. They come from a variety of backgrounds, including race, ethnicity, culture, and faith or lack thereof. Young people of this generation see the work environment as the place where they will have the opportunity to use their talents, contribute to community, and learn new things. Certainly many who come to Capitol Hill are ready to dig in and advance their careers.

Along the way, they desire true, authentic relationships with their colleagues. Instead of going to work just to get things done, they want to move beyond the superficial and prioritize friendship by meeting and hanging out with colleagues outside of work as well.

This research on Gen Z affirms what we do. One of the reasons we believe God planted Faith & Liberty on Capitol Hill is to reach out and engage these young people. We are thankful for this focus of our ministry and have been investing in young people for years. God has equipped us with the Ministry Center that is a warm and inviting space for Bible studies, prayer times, life discussions, game nights, food, and fellowship. For instance, we recently purchased a few new pieces of furniture, and the interns and congressional staffers voluntarily came to help us assemble them! We want to invest in this generation, offer a listening ear and guidance for all of life, and most importantly, share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Will you support us prayerfully and financially as we meet these young people at this point on their life journey and do our part to help them stay on the straight and narrow path that leads to life? Thank you for standing with us as we minister to these future leaders of our country!

We leave you with this powerful Scripture for your encouragement:

“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing” (2 Cor. 2: 14-15).

THE MONDAY RECAP

The staff of Faith & Liberty held a video call to reflect on our 2023 programs and events, and their impact on those who work on Capitol Hill. We also shared what we expect in 2024 — events to pray about, donate to, or volunteer for to help us keep communicating the gospel in Washington, D.C.

Peggy Nienaber continued to meet with those interns and staffers who were in D.C. for holidays. We enjoyed a Game Night, coffee meetings, and fellowship time together.

COMING SOON

Our Bible studies start again this week, and we ask that God will grow these wonderful groups that meet in our Ministry Center and across the district.

The year 2024 is starting off right with a little competition with the congressional staffers and interns! Faith & Liberty will host a “Game Night” starting this Friday evening and continuing.

Our Life Reception is slated for January 19 at the Ministry Center for pro-lifers in town for the 51st annual March for Life on January 21.

Prayers of Remembrance — Victims of Roe Memorial will be held Monday, January 22, outside the U.S. Supreme Court. In memory of children lost to abortion, 3,000 flowers will be laid at 11 a.m. Many will share prayers, songs, and remembrances.

We are looking forward to participating in the Congressional Ministry Fair on March 21. The event is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives Chaplain Margaret Kibben and will be held in the Rayburn House Office Building. This will give our staff an opportunity to connect with staffers, employees, and members of Congress.

PRAYER

Pray for all in authority in our nation, from the Oval Office and the Halls of Congress to state and local authorities, according to I Timothy 2:1-2, “that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

Pray that each member of the House and Senate would seek wisdom and blessing from the Lord in their plans and decisions.

Pray for continued open doors of favor as we interact with members and key leaders. We ask that those who are seeking Him will be able to withstand any attack and that God would supply their every need.

Pray that the Supreme Court Justices will make good and right decisions.

Pray that we would be a shining light on Capitol Hill and that God would use our Ministry Center for His kingdom purposes.
