Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Dec 4, 2023

If you’ve ever gone through a fast food drive-thru, you’ve likely had the experience of an employee forgetting an item from your order — often your drink — and you may not realize what’s missing until you’ve driven off. Attention to detail and service to the customer are often lacking. It takes focus to handle the multitasking of multiple orders, communicating with the kitchen, handling payments, and understanding the orders of customers who may be distracted by kids in the car, feel cranky or even be inebriated! You can see why some franchises are starting to use nice, never-inconvenienced robots to take orders and prepare food!

At Faith & Liberty, we juggle a lot of tasks too, but we want the people we serve to know that they are our priority. We want them to know how much we value and appreciate them. That goes from donors and volunteers to interns and staffers — and more. This is our form of “customer care.” You are not just an inconvenience to our day or a mere interruption to our routine. You are why we do what we do! This week, we’ll have the opportunity to say these things face to face in coffee meetings with staffers and dinners with donors and volunteers.

This is also Live Nativity week! The care that went into the costumes and the coordination with volunteers and various government departments to present our Live Nativity is all coming to fruition this Thursday morning. We thank you for your prayers for the specifics so that everything that is needed will be in place for this powerful visual presentation of the gospel on Capitol Hill. Blessings to you for being a part of this important annual event!

THE MONDAY RECAP

  • Peggy Nienaber attended the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting Tuesday evening on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Members of Congress and guests attended this special event, which is a 50-year tradition. At the lighting of the 63-foot Norway spruce, the speakers acknowledged and thanked God, and one even reflected on Jesus being “the Reason for the Season.” Pro-Hamas protesters tried to interrupt Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who was not deterred and just talked louder to try to overcome the protests. It wasn’t long and the protesters were removed from the event!
  • Last Friday evening at the Ministry Center, we enjoyed a spontaneous game night with the interns and congressional staffers, and 25 came for this fellowship time!

  • Peggy also attended a special screening of Christmas with The Chosen: “Holy Night” on Capitol Hill. Members of the cast were invited to meet lawmakers and their staffers at the event.

COMING SOON

  • Our LIVE NATIVITY presentation will be held this Thursday, December 7, at 11 a.m. in front of the Supreme Court. We look forward to visually pointing back to the time when our Savior identified with humanity and entered the world as a baby!

  • Peggy has scheduled one-on-one coffee meetings for this week with staffers who did not go home for the holiday.

  • This week we will have several dinners so we can connect with and thank our donors and volunteers.

  • We will participate in “Carols at the Capitol” with members of Congress this Wednesday evening in the Capitol building. There will be music and food during the evening, giving members a time to celebrate the Reason for the Season.

  • Several interns and congressional staffers, including some we have shared the gospel with, are following the Lord in the waters of baptism this Sunday. This is always a joyous occasion! Many of the interns are wrapping up their time on Capitol Hill, so we pray many will take their newfound faith home with them and become established in a Bible-believing local church.

PRAYER
In this beautiful Christmas season, we thank God:
  • For the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ to change lives.

  • For many who have participated in our Bible studies to engage with God’s Word.

  • For the baptisms of many interns and congressional staffers this year.

  • For our Live Nativity to pierce hearts on Capitol Hill with God’s truth and love.

  • For those who support the mission of Faith & Liberty.

  • For our nation’s leaders, for whom we pray daily.

  • That you are with us in the battle for life, liberty, and the family.

To all these things, join us as we say, Amen!
