Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Nov 27, 2023
This week we’re focusing on two important things, (1) pouring into the lives of the interns who will be wrapping up their time on Capitol Hill before heading home and (2) preparing for our Live Nativity.
Having served in Washington for many years, we have gotten used to the come-and-go nature of life on Capitol Hill. One season ends, another begins, and we’re at that stage now with the current batch of interns. We have so enjoyed them and are grateful for some one-on-one time to mentor and disciple them, and that we’ve been able to help many of them get grounded in God’s Word, in corporate prayer, and in the local church. We pray that they go back home — wherever that may be — with a fervor to deepen their faith in Christ.
The anticipation is also building for our Live Nativity next Thursday morning, December 7, in front of the Supreme Court. It takes a lot to obtain the necessary permits from various government departments to put on this powerful visual presentation of the gospel on Capitol Hill, but we are thankful to report that nearly everything is in place at this time. We will be dropping off postcards to Capitol Hill offices with invitations to the Live Nativity and with a QR code to access a series of Christmas devotional readings we have written. As we prepare for next week’s presentation, we are reminded that not only is Jesus “The Reason for the Season,” but He is also the only way to an abundant life on earth and a joyous eternity in heaven!
Please pray with us this week that the interns will continue in the way of the Lord as they finish out their time in D.C. and that our leaders and all who work on Capitol Hill are made aware in this season that, as Psalm 97:1 reminds us, the LORD reigns! Let the earth rejoice!

THE MONDAY RECAP
Some congressional staffers and interns did not get to travel home to be with their families for Thanksgiving so instead many participated in Friendsgiving Dinners this week. Peggy Nienaber helped host several dinners on Capitol Hill in various locations.
Peggy also scheduled coffee meetings with staffers who did not go home for the holiday.
Peggy Nienaber will attend the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree lighting tomorrow night on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Members of Congress and guests will attend this special evening, which is a 50-year tradition. The tree, a 63-foot Norway spruce, didn’t have far to come this year as it was harvested from the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia.
This is the final week for the interns who work on Capitol Hill, then there will be a new batch of young faces coming in the New Year. We’ll also have our final Bible study with them this Friday.
Every Thursday, we gather for Chapel Night on Capitol Hill at various locations to sing and pray for our nation’s capital and for all who work on Capitol Hill.
Our Congressional Bible Study continues this week.
Our LIVE NATIVITY presentation will be held next Thursday, December 7, at 11 a.m. in front of the Supreme Court. It will be quite the production as we point back to the incarnation of the Son of God!
Continuing in the spirit of thanksgiving, we thank our God:
For the forgiveness and peace found only in Jesus Christ.
For the privilege of sharing the gospel and seeing lives changed.
For directing us on mission each day.
For the interns and staffers whose lives we’ve been able to invest in.
For entrusting this ministry to us.
For our Live Nativity to pierce hearts on Capitol Hill with God’s truth and love.
For those who support the mission of Faith & Liberty.
For our nation’s leaders, for whom we pray daily.
For the spiritual fruit of our ministry.
That you are with us in the battle for life, liberty, and the family.
That we can rest and find refuge in you, dear Lord.
To all these things, join us as we say, Amen!
