Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Oct 23, 2023
Do you ever feel like a lone ranger Christian? No one is paying attention to what you’re doing. Nobody cares what’s going on in your life. We all may feel that way sometimes, but especially when support is hard to find.
Think of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22: 39-45). There, before the crucifixion, our Savior was in such agony He sweat drops of blood. And where were His closest disciples? Nearby, but sleeping. Not paying attention, not praying with Him, not supporting Him in the most critical moment of His life.
Jesus needed support, as we all do. Today, Peggy Nienaber will have a special opportunity to remember suffering Christians around the world who need our support. Peggy will join with other people of faith, including members of Congress, to attend an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the passage of the International Religious Freedom Act.
We must be reminded of our brothers and sisters in Christ who are easily forgotten because their faces are rarely seen on our news networks or social media sites. But God sees. He notices their suffering and their stand for the sake of the gospel. We stand with them today on Capitol Hill.
Thank you also for praying with and supporting Faith & Liberty in the vital mission to which God has called us on Capitol Hill!
Your missionaries in Washington, D.C.,
The Faith & Liberty team
You form the backbone of Faith & Liberty because of your prayerful and financial support. We are asking if you, our faithful supporters, can assist us with this special event by giving a one-time additional gift. This is an important outreach and a means of encouraging the law enforcement community, so we have always covered its cost. Would you consider helping us in sponsoring next year's award ceremony? We want these officers to know that they are important, appreciated, and loved by God, this ministry, and our supporters. Go to the Faith & Liberty website, or call Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776, and she will gladly assist you.
The Hill Ministry met, drawing together various ministries that serve on Capitol Hill to share what projects and events we each are working on, and see what we can pray for and how we can cooperate.
Peggy Nienaber attended a Conservative Partnership Institute event and participated in prayer for Israel. Jonathan Alexandre of Liberty Counsel Action was one of the speakers offering a prayer for the Israel people.
We met for Rock Wednesday, our monthly prayer time, to intercede for our nation. There is much to pray for!
Our Ministry Center is exceptionally clean after congressional staffers volunteered to clean it from top to bottom on a service day this past Saturday. We are thankful as we want to be good stewards of this beautiful building God has given us on Capitol Hill!
Today, Peggy Nienaber will be attending the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom — 25th Anniversary event in the Kennedy Caucus Room. The event will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. Members of Congress will speak at the event focusing on those who are being persecuted for their faith and remembering the ongoing conflict in Israel.
Faith & Liberty will have the opportunity to volunteer during Michael W. Smith’s concert this week. It will be a night of inspiration for members of Congress and their staff serving on Capitol Hill.
Peggy will be attending a Women’s Retreat this weekend with many congressional staffers and those who work on Capitol Hill. PTL, more than 90 have registered! This is an opportunity for the women to create new friendships, take prayer walks, and enjoy fellowship and devotional time together. Faith & Liberty will host the hospitality table, another way to personally get to know these important women on Capitol Hill.
Our Bible Studies continue throughout the week. While congressional staffers have busy schedules on Capitol Hill, this gives them each a time to devote to discussing God’s Word and its application to their lives.
Next Wednesday, Nov. 1, Faith & Liberty will participate in the National Prayer Altar, a live in-person and online event at 6 p.m. at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. We will join Christians of various ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, and church denominations to unify and pray for America.
December's Live Nativity will take place Thursday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. Please pray about the volunteers, costumes, and paperwork for permits for this special event sharing the gospel story of the birth of Jesus Christ.
PRAYER
Join us in prayer and thanksgiving:
That Faith & Liberty would bear fruit for the gospel on Capitol Hill and that many would come to Christ through our many Bible studies.
That 15 more young people, including congressional staffers, have joined a strong local church here on Capitol Hill.
That God would guide us as we seek divine appointments for those He wants us to reach.
That we would stand strong in times of spiritual attack and always be aware of the schemes of our enemy, the devil, according to Eph. 6:11.
That Christians across the country would unite in prayer for the healing of our land, according to 2 Chronicles 7:14.
For the persecuted around the world who are suffering for their faith. It is hard to imagine what they are enduring in the name of Christ!
That antisemitism around the world would be suppressed and that there would be minimal loss of life in the war in Israel. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
