Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Sep 25, 2023

Faith & Liberty acknowledged the service of law enforcement on Capitol Hill last Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Recognition Breakfast at the Capitol building. Although this is my (Peggy Nienaber’s) 17th year presenting these awards, it is the event’s 47th year!

In honoring 10 of the U.S. Capitol Police officers, who were nominated by the police chief, we recognized not only those distinguished officers present at the breakfast event but also all who serve. Just as God watches over us each day, the U.S. Capitol Police watch over us on Capitol Hill. Because of that, we feel doubly secure!

Our world is fraught with injustice and evil. Yet, while we look forward to our eternal home, we have a vital mission — a divine calling — to fulfill in our nation’s capital. We are thankful for the courageous men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police dedicated to serving and protecting us so we can carry out our mission safely.

We thank the Lord for these officers and pray for them daily.

The Faith & Liberty team

You form the backbone of Faith & Liberty because of your prayerful and financial support. We are asking if you, our faithful supporters, can assist us with this special event by giving a one-time additional gift. This is an important outreach and a means of encouraging the law enforcement community, so we have always covered its cost. Would you consider helping us in sponsoring next year's award ceremony? We want these officers to know that they are important, appreciated, and loved by God, this ministry, and our supporters. Go to the Faith & Liberty website, or call Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776, and she will gladly assist you.

MONDAY RECAP
  • Faith & Liberty honored 10 officers last Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Recognition Breakfast at the U.S. Capitol building. We had the opportunity to share the gospel and thank law enforcement for their service on Capitol Hill. Bibles were given to each of the awardees along with Revere U.S. Capitol bowls for their outstanding commitment. The Chief of Police, Sergeant of Arms for the Senate, Sergeant of Arms for the House and Architect of the Capitol and others were in attendance.

  • Faith & Liberty’s Ministry Center hosted the CHANGED Movement last week. CHANGED members were in D.C. to educate members of Congress and their staff, and minister to any who want to leave the LGBTQ culture and identity. Peggy Nienaber had a chance to pray with the group and share the events that were happening at the Ministry Center as well as others on Capitol Hill. The Changed Movement staff attended several Faith & Liberty events throughout the week.

  • “Rock Wednesday,” our new prayer time with congressional staffers and interns that Peggy will facilitate, started last week and is being held once a month in the Rayburn House Office Building.

  • Another new Bible study — the Capitol Hill Study — started last Friday at Faith & Liberty’s Ministry Center. Participants are digging into a practical book of the Bible, the book of James. Many congressional interns attended for lunch and to feast on the Word of God!

COMING SOON
  • On Wednesday, Nov. 1, Faith & Liberty will participate in the National Prayer Altar, a live in-person and online event at 6 p.m. at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Together, we will join believers of all ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, and Christian denominations to unify and pray for America.
  • Planning is underway for December's Live Nativity on Capitol Hill. Please pray about the volunteers, costumes, and paperwork for permits for this special event sharing the gospel story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

PRAYER

We thank the Lord for how well all of the events of last week went. Each event was well-received. We’ll share more on that in next week’s Monday Report!

  • Pray for our many Bible studies, including the new Capitol Hill Study. Pray for the leaders to lead each group well and for the participants to learn and apply God’s Word and grow in fellowship with one another.

  • Pray that Faith & Liberty will continue to strengthen and support members of Congress who are standing for the truth and seeking to honor God in how they represent their constituents. Pray for all leaders in the three branches of government, that they would ask for wisdom to govern well.

  • Pray that the new prayer time, Rock Wednesday, will draw many to acknowledge the Lord in all their ways. Pray for Peggy as she leads this sacred hour each month.

  • Pray that more interns and staffers will choose to follow the Lord in the waters of baptism and be discipled in their faith.
