Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Aug 14, 2023

As summer comes to an end in America’s capital in a few weeks, we reflect on what Faith & Liberty has been able to accomplish so far this year. We are thankful for you as supporters who pray for us and support Faith & Liberty financially. That is why during our Annual Prayer Retreat last week, we took your prayer requests to our Father in heaven and thanked Him for His provision so our ministry can grow and meet the needs of many on Capitol Hill.

Here are some 2023 Faith & Liberty highlights we have reflected on:

  • Prayer & Remembrance: Victims of Roe event outside the Supreme Court.

  • We held prayer vigils outside the U.S. Capitol for days as members decided and voted on the next Speaker of the House.

  • We hosted former Mongolian President Tsahiagiyn Elbegdorj, who spoke at a special luncheon at our Ministry Center.

  • The National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance was held at the Museum of the Bible. Prominent ministry leaders and organizations came together to pray for our nation.

  • Faith & Liberty co-hosted a wonderful Good Friday Service on the West Plaza near the U.S. Capitol.

  • Several missionary groups, including from Houston First Baptist Church of Texas and Day Spring Missions, visited our Ministry Center and volunteered to help with various tasks.

  • Career Interest Panel for the interns.

  • Bible studies, including those focused on apologetics, key chapters of the Bible, discipleship for new Christians and THINK groups, as well as a book club that included a variety of Christian books for discussion. We have over 28 Bible Studies each month and attendance is growing!

  • Over 50 female congressional staffers came to “Flower-Power Hour,” a time of fellowship, fun, and making floral arrangements.

  • We were able to hold the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon outside once again on the West Terrace lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

  • For the first-ever Congressional Members Bible Reading Marathon, House Chaplain Margaret Kibben opened her office to allow us to host members of Congress as they came to publicly read the Bible during the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon.

  • For the Dobbs anniversary, Faith & Liberty co-sponsored a congressional breakfast, Fresh Start 4 Life, for women on the Hill and key pro-life leaders.

  • We organized prayer walks during the Dobbs anniversary week, held throughout the day around the Supreme Court and the Capitol. Faith & Liberty also joined with other ministries to host a rally themed “Make Abortion Unthinkable.”

  • The annual Rooftop Prayer Encounter began with Jonathan Alexandre of Liberty Counsel Action and Peggy Nienaber of Faith & Liberty, who started the event by reading Acts 10 sharing Peter's rooftop encounter with God. Fifty other Washington, D.C., leaders attended.

  • House Chaplain Margaret Kibben hosted a Ministry Fair for ministries that serve on Capitol Hill. The Faith & Liberty team set up a booth with information on our Bible Studies and other activities. We were there to engage with interns, staffers, and many others who work in the congressional offices on Capitol Hill.

We especially thank you for praying with us and supporting Faith & Liberty in all of our mission-focused work this year. God is surely moving through our ministry as we engage the interns, staffers, and leaders on Capitol Hill. We pray that, with you standing beside us, Faith & Liberty will continue to bear spiritual fruit “exceedingly abundantly”!

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Eph. 3:20-21).

COMING SOON
  • The Bible Studies for the fall begin soon. The studies we have been doing are regrouping to make room for new attendees.

  • The CHANGED Movement will once again make Faith & Liberty’s Ministry Center their home base the week of Sept. 19. Not only will the team be educating members of Congress and their staff, but also ministering to those who are leaving the LGBTQ culture and identity and supporting those who are seeking to make a life change in the right direction for their future.

  • Faith & Liberty will host a Fairness in Women’s Sports luncheon on Friday, Sept. 22. The focus of the event is men competing in women’s sports. We will have a panel discussion, and members of Congress and Olympic award-winning athletes will discuss this critical topic. The speakers are set now, and we are thankful everything has come together so well. We have invited members of the House and Senate, swimmer Riley Gaines, Olympic Gold and Silver track medalist Dr. Madeline Manning Mims, and Penny Nance, president and CEO of Concerned Women for America.

  • Faith & Liberty’s new hour of Prayer in the U.S. Capitol is open to anyone working in congressional offices. This will start next month and continue once a month thereafter. Peggy Nienaber will host and lead the prayers during this time.

  • Faith & Liberty is planning for September’s U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Recognition Breakfast. This event gives us an opportunity to share the gospel and acknowledge those who keep us safe on Capitol Hill.

  • Plans are already underway for December's Live Nativity. Please pray about the volunteers, costumes, and paperwork for permits for this event.
