Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jul 24, 2023

I’m a history buff. Are you? I’m grateful for the privilege of being able to walk the halls of Congress or visit key landmarks here in our nation’s capital. Faith & Liberty staff have planned prayer walks on Capitol Hill at key times such as when the historic Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, but we also pray often as we walk on the Hill heading toward a Bible study or a meeting with a chaplain, for instance.

Prayer, not just daily, but “without ceasing” (I Thes. 5:17) throughout the day is needed to stay attuned to the Holy Spirit moment by moment. We never know who He is going to bring across our path, and we must continually abide in Christ so we are always ready for divine appointments.

We live in the day to day, but we also know our nation is at a pivotal moment in history. The three branches of government are making critical decisions that will impact generations of Americans to come — should the Lord tarry in His coming. Just think of the difficult subjects that have come before our lawmakers of late: abortion funding, “transgenderism,” immigration at the southern border, Supreme Court ethics, and censorship among them.

Yes, it is a pivotal moment, so just as Jesus admonished His disciples in the garden of Gethsemane, so we must not be lulled to sleep. Lord, wake us up! Help us be ever vigilant and be watchman on the wall.

We are ever so grateful for you who stand with us prayerfully, financially, and in every other way in the vital mission before us. Be sure to also share your prayer requests with us as we prepare for our upcoming retreat. We will pray for you and your concern by name. Add your specific request at the link here, and also join us weekly as we pray for the important prayer points listed below.

Abundant blessings,

Peggy Nienaber for the Faith & Liberty team

Prayer and Bible study with Congressional Staffers

THE MONDAY RECAP

  • Peggy Nienaber was invited to participate in a briefing Wednesday on the growing problem of antisemitism in America. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy discussed the alarming numbers of antisemitic incidents happening in our nation. Members of Congress also joined in this briefing.

  • Saturday brought fun and fellowship to the field — the Wiffle ball field, that is! Peggy participated in a tournament with a couple of hundred congressional staffers, interns, and one former professional baseball player at West Potomac Park in the capital. Peggy got a hit, and her team came in second place in the tournament!

Good Neighbor Wiffle ball tournament brought 200 interns and staffers from all branches of the government to support a local charity for Christian athletes in Washington, D.C.

COMING SOON
  • Our Faith & Liberty team takes an annual private prayer retreat, which will be the first week of August. During this time, we look to the Lord to guide and strengthen us for the strategic work to which He has called us, and we intentionally intercede for every one of our supporters — by name. Please submit your prayer requests by calling Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776 or by emailing us at [email protected].

  • It’s also time for summer fun! Our athletic skills will be tested on Saturday in an upcoming tournament as we join congressional staffers and interns for Wiffle ball at West Potomac Park in Washington.

  • Peggy Nienaber was invited to participate in an Antisemitism briefing to be held in the Speaker’s dining room this Wednesday. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy will discuss the alarming numbers of antisemitism incidents happening in our world today. Members of Congress will also attend this briefing.

  • Faith & Liberty is planning for September’s U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Award Breakfast. The U.S. Capitol police officers keep us safe in our nation’s capital each day.
To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Pray that Faith & Liberty staff will honor and glorify God in all we do and say.

Pray for the Holy Spirit’s leading us each day as we interact with interns, congressional staffers, and leaders on Capitol Hill.

Praise the Lord for the many new believers we have seen come to Christ recently! Pray that they will be rooted and grounded in their faith and will be established in a local church.

Pray that many more will attend and grow our Bible studies on Capitol Hill and will choose to follow the Lord in their personal and professional lives.

Pray for the two Bible studies for women members of Congress and for guidance for Peggy as she leads them.

Thank the Lord for His protection over our Ministry Center property and over the Faith & Liberty staff members and their families.

Pray that our retreat in August will be a special time together of hearing from the Lord and resting in Him.
