It was so powerful this week when I (Peggy Nienaber) heard an exchange student testify to how important it’s been for him to have a group to meet with Sunday morning and then connect with various times through the week. This tight-knit group of fellow Christians helped him grow in his walk with Christ, and its members were truly there when he needed them. He said the church was “like family.” This is exactly the experience we seek to cultivate as we chat over coffee or visit in Bible studies, events, and activities inside and outside of our Ministry Center. It’s why we watch fireworks, play Wiffle ball, attend a charity baseball game, or take a hike in the woods together. That family feeling is hard to find for many who come to Washington, D.C., and we know the alternative that many choose is to hang out in bars. But we believe our Heavenly Father brings each intern and staffer our way to be part of the body of Christ here on Capitol Hill. Please pray with us as we seek to meet the needs and give direction for these young people who may be leading this nation into its future. As you support us in our vital mission on Capitol Hill, you, too, play a part. Thank you for your generous gifts and faithful prayers for our growing ministry!

THE MONDAY RECAP
- Congressional staffers and interns got together to watch the D.C. Fireworks on the Fourth. Together, we celebrated our freedom and enjoyed our fellowship at the same time.
- We held an Intern Career Panel last week. Congressional staffers and others from Capitol Hill shared their walk of faith and experiences with the interns who are working this summer on Capitol Hill.
- Peggy Nienaber attended the Sound of Freedom, a powerful movie about human trafficking that is in theaters now. You won’t want to miss it!
COMING SOON
- This Sunday, we’ll host the Think Bible study at the Ministry Center discussing the theme “In God We Trust.”
- Peggy Nienaber has one-on-one Coffee Connection meetings to connect with some of the interns and staffers early this week. Prayer, fellowship and time of conversation to check in on those we mentor in Washington, D.C.
- In a couple of weeks, our athletic skills will be tested in an upcoming tournament as we join congressional staffers and interns for Wiffle ball at West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. Time for some summer fun!
- Faith & Liberty is planning for September’s U.S. Capitol Police Officer of the Year Award Breakfast. The U.S. Capitol police officers keep us safe in our Nation’s Capital each day.
- Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black marks 20 years of ministry this week. He is the longest and consecutive Chaplain serving in our Nation’s history. Chaplain Black is the first African American and first career military Chaplain to serve. Chaplain Black turns 75 in November. Our Faith & Liberty staff will be celebrating this two-decade service in the US Capitol with the Chaplain and his staff.
- Our Faith & Liberty team takes an annual private prayer retreat, which will be the first week of August. During this time, we look to the Lord to guide and strengthen us for the strategic work to which He has called us and we intentionally intercede for every one of our supporters — by name. Please submit your prayer requests by calling Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776 or by emailing us at [email protected].
PRAYER
Lord, we pray:
- That America would live up to our “In God We Trust” motto and that we would have a good discussion in our Think study on Sunday about what it means to trust God as a nation.
- That the congresswomen who participate in our two Bible studies for the members would find them helpful in their walk with the Lord. Pray that these studies would grow as more members engage with God’s Word.
- That our Ministry Center would be a haven for the interns and staffers amid the burdens and battles of life and work on Capitol Hill.
- For your direction as we plan activities and, most importantly, for spiritual fruit in all aspects of Faith & Liberty’s ministry.
- That we would effectively stand in Washington for life, liberty, and the family as God designed it.
- That more churches would come alongside us in our vital ministry. Thank the Lord for the churches that support Faith & Liberty.
