Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jun 26, 2023

Thousands of pro-life supporters gathered in Washington, D.C., last week for a monumental celebration of the overturn of Roe v. Wade one year ago. It was a glorious time as we celebrated the Supreme Court decision for life as well as looking ahead to the future at the many state battles we must fight for the Sanctity of Human Life. For many, the refrain for the unborn was “Equal Protection Under the Law.” For others, it was “Make Abortion Unthinkable.”

Faith & Liberty hosted two events on Friday, a Congressional Prayer Breakfast at the Capitol Hill Club focusing on a Fresh Start 4 Life and an evening Life Reception at our Ministry Center. Scores of key leaders in the cause for life attended the breakfast, so this was an invaluable time to meet with them. Some of these leaders and members of Congress shared personal testimonies along with advancements in the post-Roe world.

Our planning and coordination with other life-affirming groups came to fruition as we participated in other significant events. All of the pro-life events last week were very well attended, and thousands were encouraged to keep up the good fight for life.

Saturday’s Make Abortion Unthinkable Praise and Worship Rally, on the actual anniversary of the Dobbs ruling, was held in Union Square on the West side of the U.S. Capitol building. We found it meaningful that it was held at the base of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial, as the Union’s General Grant emancipated an enslaved people during the Civil War. As the largest equestrian monument in the U.S., this bronze and marble memorial to Grant, who later became a two-term president, seemed to embody the vision of the pro-life movement, seeking the release of captives held by a multibillion-dollar industry of death in this country.

Along with these major events, we want to share that we now have approximately 25 Bible studies a month, with most of them held in our Ministry Center! God has placed Faith & Liberty strategically on Capitol Hill. He is using us to reach members of Congress as well as an ever-growing number of interns and staffers who work on the Hill through personal interaction, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and numerous fellowship gatherings. Thank you for your continued prayers and financial support as we steward this important base for effective outreach.

God bless you for standing with us!

THE MONDAY RECAP
  • We participated in a press conference with Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma and members of Congress. The press conference was held in the Senate swamp area, the most famous place on Capitol Hill to hold a press conference. Peggy Nienaber participated while congressional members shared their thoughts and what they are doing to help those in a family crisis situation. The protesters lined up in front of the Supreme Court during the afternoon to voice their opposing views.

  • On a lighter note, Life Week began not only with a downpour of rain each day, but also with the 39th Ice Cream Social on Capitol Hill. It was just a tad miserable with the rain, but also a lot of fun connecting with staffers while enjoying the sweet delights of ice cream and/or root beer floats!
  • Peggy joined with women from She Leads America to pray for all the activities of the week and for members of Congress. We prayed in the U.S. Capitol and took prayer walks outside during the week.

  • We held a strategic planning meeting at the Ministry Center with over 40 women to discuss the direction of Fresh Start 4 Life, which will help women and men with decisions regarding the family.

  • As mentioned above, we held a Fresh Start 4 Life breakfast with She Leads America. It was a great celebration featuring several members of Congress along with several powerful women leaders in the pro-life movement. Nearly 80 were in attendance to remember the Dobbs anniversary and share their focus on moving forward in their individual states, communities, churches, and businesses.

  • On Friday evening, our team hosted a reception for over 70 people at the Faith and Liberty Ministry Center, a time of networking, fellowship, and prayer. It was also an opportunity for leaders, teams, and others to discuss their focus on this movement. Some special guests attended, including Hannah, the first child born out of an embryo adoption program, aka a “snowflake baby”; Maison Deschamps, the pro-life Spider-Man who scales tall buildings to bring awareness to pro-life concerns; and Melissa Ohden, an abortion survivor.

  • Peggy had numerous one-on-one meetings with interns to see if they are connecting well and help secure their place in Bible Studies and fellowship groups, and also to pray with them for particular needs.
  • The Bible Studies also continued throughout the week and weekend. God’s Word must be front and center in our ministry!

Prayer Retreat: Our Faith & Liberty team takes an annual private prayer retreat, which will be the first week of August. During this time, we look to the Lord to guide and strengthen us for the strategic work to which He has called us and we intentionally intercede for every one of our supporters — by name. Please submit your prayer requests by calling Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776 or by emailing us at [email protected].

PRAYER

Prayer is needed more than ever in the cause of life. During this Life Month, together let’s pray:

That the events of this month would glorify God, our Creator, and protect the lives of His children.

That children would be welcomed and not thought of as an inconvenience, and that life would be celebrated in America.

That all who are at risk of harm — from the unborn to mothers and fathers, from prayer counselors to pro-life protesters — would be protected.

That Judges and Justices would seek wisdom to rule righteously in pro-life cases.

That government leaders at local, state, and federal levels would take up the cause of life.

For an end to “abortion tourism” or travel from state to state to abort the unborn.

That parents who have aborted their child or children will repent and get the help they need to heal.

That God would raise up more men and women to offer help and counsel for those who are debating ending the life of their child.

That God would meet the needs of parents struggling to cope with bringing new life into the world.

That churches would work together in the cause of life and that pastors would speak out for life.
