Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jun 12, 2023

This week we have some exciting news! We have started our 20th Bible study! Interns, congressional staffers, and members of Congress are welcome to attend this new study in a location close to the Washington Navy Yard.

As you know, the Bible studies held at our Ministry Center and in other locations, including our two studies for the women of Congress, are one of the mainstays of Faith & Liberty’s ministry. During these studies, interns and staffers often ask important questions about the Bible, offering opportunities for an apologetic defense of our faith and for a personal witness for Christ.

We are present on “the Hill,” as Capitol Hill is commonly called, and that fact reminds us of a passage in the Gospel of Matthew: “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt. 5:14-16).

This is what we desire for our leaders and for all in Washington. This is what we want for Faith & Liberty itself. Lord, let us be that light. Let us not hide our good works. When others witness what we do in personal interaction, in Bible studies, and in ministry activities, may they know that we are here to give glory to our Father in heaven.

As we minister, we need you to stand with us — as many of you do — and we are ever so grateful for your belief in what God is doing through our ministry on Capitol Hill. Both your prayerful and financial support are critical to our ministry, and we thank you!

THE MONDAY RECAP

  • The Supreme Court Historical Society Annual Meeting was well attended last Monday. The staff did an exceptional job arranging a special evening for members and their guests. Historical Society Members could attend the Annual Lecture featuring Retired Associate Justice Stephen Breyer and Judge Charles Breyer in the Courtroom. There was a beautiful reception in the East & West conference rooms followed by the Annual Dinner in the Great Hall. Peggy Nienaber was able to attend along with Dr. Manon Gurley, senior pastor and president of Harvest International Ministerial Fellowship.

  • We enjoyed a meet-and-greet with the interns recently, as our Faith & Liberty team continues to mentor many of them, and meeting with congressional staff who are willing to receive prayer over their life and work on Capitol Hill.

Opportunities abound for congressional interns in Washington, D.C., for the summer.  Contact our office and ask for Patty Bills if you want to learn more about upcoming events.

COMING SOON
  • Batter up! Since 1909, The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity has brought members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to the field to play in a friendly competition. This Wednesday night, Faith & Liberty staff members will attend the game at Nationals Park with family and interns, connecting with the congressional members for fellowship and developing relationships while enjoying this annual charitable event.
  • The pro-life events on June 23-24 tied to the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs opinion are coming up ASAP! There will be a Fresh Start 4 Life Congressional Breakfast, a Life Reception, and a Prayer & Worship Rally, which will be held on the west side of the U.S. Capitol. Here are the details:
  • The Congressional Breakfast is full, but if you’d like to attend, you must RSVP to add your name to the waiting list. We are thrilled that this event is drawing huge interest and is focusing on life Issues and moving forward after Dobbs. Members of Congress will share personal testimonies along with advancements in the post-Roe world.
  • An RSVP is also required for the evening Life Reception, and that is also filling to capacity. Once again, we will have a waiting list. Call Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776 to add your name in case of a cancellation.
To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Lord, we pray:

That attending the Congressional Baseball Game would allow for some great connections with members of Congress and many who work on Capitol Hill.

That the congresswomen who participate in our Bible studies would find this time valuable in their walk with the Lord. Pray that even more would come and prioritize their spiritual life.

For the pro-life events in the capital and across the country this month, and that the life of the unborn, which our Creator forms in the womb, would be valued in America.

For the hundreds of young adults we reached at the Ministry Fair hosted by House Chaplain Margaret Kibben. Pray that they would connect with us and attend Bible studies and Fellowship Nights.

That our Ministry Center would be a haven for interns and staffers amid the burdens and battles of life and work on Capitol Hill.

That we would shine our light for Christ in Washington as we stand for life, liberty, and the family as God designed it.
