Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

May 1, 2023

As born-again, Bible-believing followers of Jesus Christ, there are times we really stand out in stark contrast from the world. Both last week and this week, I’m sure we have really stood out as “peculiar people” (I Peter 2:9).

Last week, we came alongside Seedline International to support its U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon and held our first-ever Congressional Bible Reading in U.S. House Chaplain Margaret Kibben’s office.

No doubt many look askance at us for spending nearly 100 hours on public Bible reading last week and more on public prayer events around the National Day of Prayer this week. Yet the Bible assures us that Bible reading and prayer are two of the most important focuses of our ministry at Faith & Liberty. If we were not convinced that Bible reading and prayer were important, our ministry would be of no effect.

So, while it’s easy to get caught up in the details of permits, volunteers, and inclement weather (such as we had at the start of the Bible reading outdoors!), these events are foundational to what we do at Faith & Liberty, proclaiming the good news of the gospel in our nation’s capital.

Join us as we celebrate the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 4. This year’s theme is “Pray fervently in righteousness and avail much” and is based on James 5:16b: “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

We are grateful for your support in every way — whether it be volunteering for Bible reading, praying for our Bible studies and interaction on Capitol Hill, or financially supporting our vital mission in our nation’s capital. Thank you for standing with us, especially in prayer, this week!

COMING SOON

  • Peggy Nienaber will be participating in the 72nd National Day of Prayer events this week on Capitol Hill. On May 8,1988, President Ronald Reagan signed an amendment establishing the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer every year. In 1998, President Bill Clinton mandated a presidential proclamation to be issued on the first Thursday every year designating it as the National Day of Prayer.

  • After three years of COVID closures, this year there will be a Celebration dinner and Peggy will attend. The dinner will be hosted by Rev. Samuel Rodriguez and National Day of Prayer Task Force President Kathy Branzell and leaders from across the country to pray for our Nation.

  • Peggy Nienaber and Patty Bills will attend the Congressional Observance on Capitol Hill, hosted by Rep. Robert Aderholt. Members of Congress and their staff will attend this event as we pray for America and all three branches of government.

  • The Faith & Liberty team will lead a special prayer time this week on Capitol Hill and will include the Supreme Court, the U.S. Capitol and members of Congress.

  • Peggy received a special request to attend the National Day of Prayer national broadcast to be held at the Museum of the Bible. It is our honor to pray with leaders from across this country on a day set aside by law to do so.

  • Faith & Liberty will co-host the Rooftop Prayer Encounter on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Jonathan Alexandre and Peggy Nienaber will start this prayer event by reading Acts 10 sharing Peter's rooftop encounter with God. Pray with us as we will be asking for God's wisdom and guidance for our nation, and watch this event live on the Faith & Liberty Facebook page.

  • Dobbs pro-life anniversary activities are also in the works. On Friday, June 23, Faith & Liberty is sponsoring the Fresh Start 4 Life congressional breakfast for women on the Hill, and we will be organizing prayer walks on Capitol Hill. That evening, we will host a Life Reception (by invitation only) in our Ministry Center. On Saturday, June 24, we will participate in the Make Abortion Unthinkable rally. We will also co-sponsor a praise and worship time on Saturday afternoon, June 24, at Union Plaza on Capitol Hill. Please call our office (202-737-1776) if you would like to attend.

To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Pray America would live up to our motto, “In God We Trust,” and that all three branches of government would ask for heavenly wisdom to fulfill their earthly duties.

Pray that the Supreme Court Justices and other judges in our land would do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God, according to Micah 6:8.

Thank the Lord for the churches that support Faith & Liberty. Pray that more churches would come alongside us in our vital ministry.

Pray that God will be glorified in all of our Bible studies and that He would bless the lives of the congresswomen who prioritize the study of His Word.

Pray that we will minister well to interns, staffers, and key leaders in our nation's capital. Pray for God's guidance and spiritual fruit in all aspects of Faith & Liberty’s ministry.
