Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Apr 24, 2023

We are in the middle of our 90-hour U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon, which started Saturday and runs through Wednesday. This year, the Bible Reading Marathon is being held outdoors on the West Terrace outside the Capitol under a large cross, which is certainly a fitting place!

The weather has been a bit of a challenge, though, as the heavens opened on our first day of reading. With the wind and rain, we were thankful for our rain gear — and of course, we came prepared and even had a waterproof Bible!

Why do we do this year after year? For two reasons.

First, we want to honor God in our nation’s capital through the reading of His Word, which, He promises, will not return void or empty or have no effect. Isaiah 55:11 says His Word “shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

Second, the Bible was influential in the establishment of America. Within the pages of the Bible, we find the only hope for this nation.

Watch the Bible Reading Marathon live on YouTube or look for updated videos on Faith & Liberty’s Facebook page. Read along with us!

This year, Faith & Liberty is also hosting the first Congressional Bible Reading in the U.S. Capitol from noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow. The chaplain of the House of Representatives, Margaret Kibben, has graciously opened up her office so that members of Congress can publicly read the Scriptures just steps away from the House floor.

We know many of you value the Scriptures as much as we do and appreciate the vital ministry of Faith & Liberty on Capitol Hill. Will you commit to praying regularly for us and financially supporting what Faith & Liberty does? We are grateful for your kind and generous support!

THE MONDAY RECAP

  • We joined in prayer outside the Supreme Court ahead of the religious discrimination case of U.S. mail carrier Gerald Groff. Pray with us for a Court decision that celebrates religious freedom in America!

  • We were blessed with a visit from the Dayspring Mission's student group. We love pouring into these young people’s lives, and they, in turn, inspire us with their dedication!

  • More than 25 congressional staffers came to enjoy America’s national pastime on April 18. Along with food and fellowship, we rooted for the Washington Nationals on their home field.

COMING SOON

  • There will be many activities around the National Day of Prayer, which is Thursday, May 4. This year’s theme is “Pray fervently in righteousness and avail much” and is based on James 5:16b: “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

  • Dobbs pro-life anniversary activities are being planned. On June 23, Faith & Liberty is sponsoring the FreshStart4Life congressional breakfast for women on the Hill, and we will participate in prayer walks. That evening, we will host a Life Reception (by invitation only) in our Ministry Center. On June 24, we will participate in the Make Abortion Unthinkable rally. We will also co-sponsor a praise and worship time on Saturday afternoon, June 24, at Union Plaza on Capitol Hill. Please call our office (202-737-1776) if you would like to attend.

To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Pray that our leaders in Washington, D.C., will seek the Lord for wisdom in their decisions and will walk in integrity.

Pray that God will be glorified in our leadership of Bible studies with members of Congress and that God would bless the congresswomen who set aside time to study His Word together.

Pray for the new interns about to come to Washington to serve. Pray that Faith & Liberty will be able to effectively minister to these young people as well as to congressional staffers and key leaders in our nation's capital.

Pray for discernment, direction and spiritual fruit in all aspects of Faith & Liberty’s ministry.
