Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Apr 17, 2023

A colleague of ours went to a theater this past weekend to see a film written and directed from a Christian viewpoint. But she was shocked to be subjected to 20 minutes of rated-R movie trailers that depicted extreme sexuality and highly demonic activity. Not only that, but her parents, who were with her, were also subjected to this blatant evil. Now they can’t un-see what they saw!

We’ve come to the point in America where we don’t know when we’re going to be gobsmacked with radical, degenerate, or perverse deeds or “lifestyles.” Not long ago, we would never have even dreamed of something so extreme as transgenderism. Now we see a supposedly “transgender” person becoming a star on the TikTok app then being promoted by an iconic beer brand. Thankfully, Americans reacted big time, and this “woke” corporation is losing money hand over fist. We can’t allow this radical agenda to overcome Christian and American ideals.

Historically, America was a top missionary-sending country. While the church here still sends missionaries, they are few. Now, countries and continents the American church once evangelized are so repulsed by what they see in our land that they find it necessary to send gospel truth tellers to our shores.

In Jesus’ most famous sermon, He called us to be salt and light (Matt. 5: 13-16), preserving good and dispelling darkness. We must call on the leadership in the church and in our nation to come up higher and not let the rising tide of evil overwhelm our great nation.

Here in Washington, we are thankful to be able to engage with leaders in Congress through prayer times, Bible studies (now two in the Capitol!), and in myriad other ways.

The simple reading of Scripture is also powerful. We are working on two live events for the reading of the Word, the U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon on April 22-26 and the Congressional Bible Reading on April 25. Read on to learn more and be sure to volunteer if you live in or near the capital and can participate! (Call Faith & Liberty to sign up at 202-737-1776).

We are grateful for your kind and generous support!

THE MONDAY RECAP
  • Along with our regular Bible Studies, Faith & Liberty enjoyed a visit from Aglow International and prayed with them.

  • Peggy Nienaber met with key leaders about upcoming events in which Faith & Liberty will play a key role.

  • Peggy distributed flyers and prepared invitations to the Bible Reading Marathon and other events. Patty is busy going through the proper channels to sign up members of Congress to participate in the Congressional Bible Reading. We appreciate prayer for all the nitty-gritty details to come together for all of our events.
This year's Good Friday service on the West Plaza of the US Capitol was the first service allowed in three years. Peggy Nienaber prayed for our congressional leaders, the supreme court, and all those in authority.

COMING SOON

  • The Dayspring Mission's student group arrives today and will be meeting with the U.S. House chaplain.
  • We’ll join in prayer outside the Supreme Court tomorrow, April 18, for the religious discrimination case of U.S. mail carrier Gerald Groff. Pray with us!
  • We have 27 congressional staffers confirmed to attend tomorrow, April 18, for fellowship (and food!) at the Washington Nationals baseball game on their home field in Washington, D.C.
  • The U.S. Capitol Bible Reading Marathon will be held April 22-26. It will be held outside the capitol this year, and you are welcome to volunteer to read. Please call Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office at 202-737-1776 and sign up!
  • The Faith & Liberty Team is hosting the Congressional Bible Reading on Tuesday, April 25, from noon to 5 p.m. in the U.S. Capitol building. We'll be sharing later how you can watch this event virtually.
  • There will be many activities around the National Day of Prayer, which is the first week of May.
  • Dobbs pro-life anniversary activities are being planned. On June 23, Faith & Liberty is sponsoring the FreshStart4Life congressional breakfast for women on the Hill, and we will participate in prayer walks. That evening, we will host a Life Reception (invite only) in our Ministry Center. On June 24, we will participate in the Make Abortion Unthinkable rally. We will also co-sponsor a praise and worship time on Saturday afternoon, June 24, at Union Plaza on Capitol Hill. Please call our office (202-737-1776) if you would like to attend

To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Pray for more volunteers to step forward to read the Scriptures in our U.S. Capital Bible Reading Marathon. Pray for good weather for this rain-or-shine outdoor event!

Praise the Lord for our second Congressional Bible Study! God is opening doors for Faith & Liberty to support our nation’s leaders and share the life-changing gospel with them.

Pray for right to prevail for the Christian postal worker whose case is at the Supreme Court tomorrow.

Pray for the interns who are leaving Capitol Hill and for the new batch coming in to serve members of Congress. Pray that each one would follow the Lord into a bright and promising future.

Pray for the congressional staffers in the important work that they do. Thank the Lord so many are able to join us for the baseball game tomorrow.

Pray that God would continue to multiply the ministry of Faith & Liberty just as He enlarged the territory of His faithful follower Jabez (1 Chron. 4:10).
