Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Apr 10, 2023

We are so thankful to live in a country where we can still publicly celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, as we did over Easter weekend! While we mark this history-making occasion only once on our calendar, we celebrate it in our lives and ministry every day.

We are grateful for our religious freedom. But we think of some people of faith we have met at our Ministry Center or through our involvement with the International Religious Freedom Summit who have been restricted or oppressed in expressing their faith because of the religion they converted from or because their home country is not as open as ours is and does not uphold freedom of religion as a right.

Some difficult situations or court cases lead us to pray that in America, we would remain free. We recently heard that a teacher could not use a Scripture verse about training children in her email signature, and we know that some school districts have not allowed Christian clubs or ministries to meet in their facilities after school. Pro-life speech has been infringed outside of pregnancy resource centers, and Christian counselors seeking to help individuals suffering with gender confusion have been hindered from providing the kind of counseling that helps to resolve this issue.

These are just a few examples of an increasing clampdown on religious freedom in America, but we have seen them rising. We must continue to stand against any decline of the religious liberty for which our Founding Fathers endured.

Along with upholding our precious freedoms in your sphere of influence, would you please seek the Lord and do what you can to support Faith & Liberty in taking a stand for religious freedom, life and the family in our nation’s capital? Thank you and God bless you!

THE MONDAY RECAP
  • Faith & Liberty participated in a wonderful service at noon on Good Friday. We co-sponsored the service held at the West Plaza near the U.S. Capitol.

  • Peggy Nienaber has connected in many ways this week with congressional staffers and interns. She met with staffers for coffee and prayer; dinner on women’s night; and other opportunities for meaningful conversation and prayer.

  • As Peggy makes her connections, she has invited those staffers to Good Friday and Easter Sunday services.

COMING SOON

  • We'll be sharing together in fellowship (and possibly some hotdogs and peanuts!) at a Major League Baseball game in Washington, D.C. On April 18, we will be hosting some congressional staffers at the Washington Nationals game. Go Nats!
  • The Faith & Liberty Team is excited we will be hosting the Congressional Bible Reading on Tuesday, April 25, from noon to 5 p.m. in the U.S. Capitol building. Watch for information soon to see how you can watch this event virtually.
  • Dobbs pro-life anniversary activities are being planned. On June 23, Faith & Liberty is sponsoring the FreshStart4Life congressional breakfast for women on the Hill, and we will participate in prayer walks. That evening, we will host a Life Reception (invite only) in our Ministry Center. On June 24, we will participate in the Make Abortion Unthinkable rally. We will also co-sponsor a praise and worship time.
  • In May, Peggy will participate in Israel's 75th Diamond Anniversary. She will be attending the congressional reception with members of Congress and the Israeli Knesset and will join in the evening's gala.

To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.

PRAYER

Lord, we pray:

That Faith & Liberty staff members would be a witness in Washington, D.C. Pray that we would follow as the Holy Spirit leads us to the people whose hearts are open to the seed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That the gospel would go forth in power through our Bible studies and mentoring, and that interns, staffers, and leaders would come to Christ.

That God would guide us and expand our territory as we plan future activities and events.

That God would keep us in good health in every way that we might serve Him well in our vital ministry in our nation’s capital.
