Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Feb 6, 2023
As we look around the country — and the world — in these volatile times, we realize how many concerns we need to bring to our God in prayer. We must not give in to discouragement but ever acknowledge that God is on the throne, and He can — and does — turn the hearts of those in power. Proverbs 21: 1 declares, “The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”
The Jewish people experienced this in Ezra 6:22 after observing the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days. Not only did they obey God by holding the feast as He commanded, but they did it “with joy.” Why? They were uplifted “because the LORD had made them joyful, having changed the Assyrian king’s attitude toward them, so that he supported them in the work on the house of the God of Israel.”
This week, Joe Biden will give the State of the Union address to a full House chamber on Tuesday evening. Many are anticipating these themes to come up in his speech: the war between Russia and Ukraine, U.S. relations with China, immigration at our southern border, inflation and the economy, federal spending and the debt ceiling, crime and the police, and gun violence. Those are important, but we must realize that many needs on the heart of God didn’t even make that list!
Prayer for needs such as these must be at the forefront of what we do in the nation’s capital. Through prayer and praise, we align ourselves with what our Lord is doing on Capitol Hill, in Washington and across America.
This week, as we ponder the state of our union, join with us to acknowledge God as the ultimate Sovereign and ask Him to have His way — even when that means turning the hearts of kings.

COMING SOON
Peggy Nienaber will be joining a prayer team to bring our nation and our leadership ahead of the State of the Union address, which will be held Tuesday evening.
Peggy will be handing out Blessing Cards this week to help the interns know how to contact her and inviting them to participate in Bible studies and fellowship activities.
Peggy has several “coffee shop meetings” to mentor interns this week. Thursday is also Intern night. The theme for this week’s events is Topical Study, a time to dig into the Bible and discuss Scripture.
Bible studies for interns and congressional staffers continue this week. The Monday Club starts with “Jesus Used Questions,” and Wednesday’s topic is “Thirsty — The Water of Jesus Christ.”
Planning has begun for the D.C. Bible Reading Marathon coming up April 22-26.
To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian look for the Faith & Liberty emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together to defend and preserve those values and principles we all cherish.
PRAYER
Pray for guidance for our nation’s leaders and that they would acknowledge and honor God in all their ways.
Pray for the members of Congress to prioritize the study of God’s Word amid their busy schedules. Pray in particular for our new Congressional Women’s Bible Study, that it would keep increasing in attendance and that the women members would be built up in their faith in Christ.
Pray that the interns and staffers also would follow Jesus and be discipled through our Bible studies and other activities. Pray for Peggy as she interacts with interns this week and that her Blessing Cards would be well received.
Pray for good health and stamina for Faith & Liberty members, and that God would further expand our opportunities for us to be salt and light on Capitol Hill.
