The fight to stop HR 8404 is not over. The bill returns to the U.S. House for another vote. Because of the controversy over the narrow, ineffective religious amendment, some in the House are now against the bill who formerly voted in favor. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) now says the House will vote next week. This vote schedule provides a short window of time to act.
Even if the bill had a strong religious accommodation provision, such provision would merely create a ghetto for people of faith. However, with the rejection of these three Republican amendments on Tuesday, it is much worse. For some of these senators, even a religious ghetto is too good for people of faith. As drafted, the bill will place a target on the backs of most people of faith and on everyone else as well.
This bill WILL encourage frivolous lawsuits.
Because of the Baldwin-Collins amendment, this bill will be kicked back to the U.S. House for another vote. We have one more opportunity to block this bill, but it will take a significant grassroots outcry. We have changed our fax targets to the House now. We urge you to send faxes immediately to help fight this outrageous bill. — Your Faith & Liberty team
HR 8404 will target people of faith.
Senator James Lankford (R-OK) warns that it’s “fairly obvious” that LGBT activists and trial lawyers will file “countless numbers of lawsuits testing every new definition” within this bill. “I encourage everyone in this body to ask themselves a very simple question: Is today about respecting the rights of all? Or is it about silencing some and respecting others?” Sen. Lankford’s religious accommodation amendment, along with those submitted by Republican Senators Mike Lee (UT) and Marco Rubio (FL), was rejected.
If HR 8404 becomes law, it will result in increased targeting of religious people and institutions. In addition, it will open the door for more radical LGBTQ bills.
Those pushing the LGBTQ political agenda are never satisfied. Some LGBTQ activists are ridiculing other activists for celebrating this bill. “We are operating from such a [place] ... that we gleefully gobble up this bread crumb and feign satedness,” one activist wrote over the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” getting out of the Senate.
We warn you that the LGBTQ political agenda will never be content. We have another opportunity to stop this bill in the House.
Don’t think you will escape HR 8404. We must block this bill, and the time is short. Send your faxes to the U.S. House now to urge them to stop HR 8404.
Remember that 10 years ago, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama said they opposed same-sex marriage—until they didn’t. Nothing has changed in nature, biology or God’s design—except their fallible minds.
HR 8404 will unleash a targeted attack on religious institutions and people. We must stop the bill in the House.
Every U.S. House of Representative needs to hear from you. WE NEED YOUR VOICE to send a strong message NOW. Speaker Pelosi will bring this bill up for a vote next week. Time is short. STOP HR 8404 from becoming law with your urgent faxes to the House.
Through prayer and action, our team will continue to stand for life, liberty and the family as God designed it. But this is only possible with your support. And now our Challenge Grant will effectively DOUBLE YOUR DONATION. PLEASE, be a part of the blessing today.
We want to leave you with the words of David in the beautiful Psalm 27, where he wrote, “be strong and let your heart take courage.”
