The U.S. House just passed a disastrous bill that overrides states’ rights and undermines marriage, and the U.S. Senate is rushing to vote on it ASAP.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) just filed Rule 14, which bypasses all Senate committees and allows him to push this bill to the Senate floor for a full vote at ANY TIME. This is moving fast. Now is our only chance to stop this bill.
Senate Democrats need only 10 Republicans. Already four Republican senators have publicly expressed they will probably vote for this terrible bill. In addition, 16 Republicans have indicated they are still undecided.
This bill will allow one state, like California, to dictate marriage policy for EVERY state. In addition, it empowers the U.S. attorney general and private individuals to sue anyone “under the color of law” that does not give “full faith and credit” to another state’s law. For now, it is limited to the marriage of any two people, but the law could easily be amended to strike “2” and open the doors for polygamy and polyamory (group marriages).
In fact, as written, if just one state allowed incestuous marriage (e.g., between a father and daughter or mother and son), this bill would force all 49 states to recognize and respect that “marriage.” This is a Pandora’s Box. Rush your urgent faxes to every senator you can to block this bill. — Your team at Faith & Liberty
For decades, as your Faith & Liberty missionaries, we have fought tirelessly in Washington, D.C., to defend and preserve marriage and the family as God defines marriage and the family. Now, however, these fundamental institutions are under attack as never before with the passing of HR 8404.
In true Orwellian doublespeak, HR 8404 is called the “Respect for Marriage Act,” but nothing could be further from the truth! This bill is a serious attack on marriage and on states’ rights. In just four pages, it completely destroys marriage and states’ rights.
This bill will push same-sex marriage into every state even if the 2015 Obergefell decision is overturned. Any definition of “marriage” that any state can dream up must be respected in all 50 states!
Already, four Republican senators have indicated they will likely support this bill, including Rob Portman (OH), Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Thom Tillis (NC).
About 16 senators say they are undecided, stating they have not yet reviewed the bill.
These undecided senators and others must hear from you. WE NEED YOUR VOICE to send a strong message NOW because Schumer is pushing for a vote. STOP this bill from becoming law with your urgent faxes to the U.S. Senate.
This bill passed the House last week with a total of 47 Republicans voting FOR it!
Sen. John Thune (R-SD) is the second-highest ranking GOP leader in the Senate. “As you saw, there was a fairly significant vote—bipartisan vote—last night in the House of Representatives. And I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case in the Senate,” he concluded.
We need to hold their feet to the fire and remind each and every senator to hold the line against this perversion of marriage.
This goes far beyond destroying marriage—it will override religious freedom. We stood with Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk jailed for not signing her own name on homosexual “marriage” licenses. Praise God that Kentucky now has a law unanimously passed by Democrats and Republicans to accommodate clerks requesting religious accommodation from sanctioning same-sex marriage. But this bill will override this law and force clerks to violate their faith! Rush your urgent faxes to the Senate to block this bill.
Do you want one or two states, like California or New York, to impose their version of “marriage” on the other states? We don’t. But that’s exactly what this bill will do. And it has no religious accommodation requirement.
This bill will force ALL states to bow—not just to federal mandates on marriage—but now to all other states’ mandates as well!
In reality, if this bill passes, it will make each state subservient to all 49 other states. If it passes, if just one state recognizes any kind of perversion of “marriage,” then all states must honor that as well!
Make no mistake about it. The goal is to abolish marriage by deconstructing it. If this bill passes, a minor strikethrough of “2” will force polygamy and polyamory on the states.
We must block this bill, and the time is short.
