Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jul 11, 2022

Last week we had a wonderful Independence Day celebration of the freedom and faith that form the foundation of our nation. We trust you did too.

Some, however, see nothing to celebrate in America. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last month and abortion became more of a state issue, many women—and men—felt they had lost their independence. One social media post read, “Frankly, I don’t think America deserves a birthday party this year,” all because women have supposedly lost their freedom to live as they chose—no matter the outcome.

In that spirit, women took to the streets in Washington, D.C., and in cities across the nation Saturday for the annual Women’s March. Thankfully, at least in the capital, it was not nearly as well attended as organizers anticipated. It has even been quiet around the Supreme Court, for which we are grateful.

We are also thankful for being able to participate in the 2022 International Religious Freedom Summit that drew people from around the world to Washington. Co-sponsoring this end-of-June event brought Faith & Liberty together with those who fight for religious freedom and for the persecuted around the world.

Our staff continues to pray on Capitol Hill for the concerns of Christians in America, for repentance and rest in our country, for the safety for infants in the womb, for religious freedom and the family as God defines it.

Will you continue to pray with us and for us? Thank you!

Making a difference on Capitol Hill,

The Faith & Liberty team

MONDAY RECAP
  • Peggy Nienaber attended the 49th National Fourth of July Conservative Soiree, connecting with those who help shape our nation as well as celebrating the 4th with young adults who will work in policy and legislation, serve in think tanks and even enter the ministry.
  • We also took time for fellowship as Faith & Liberty hosted a Summer Social Time with congressional interns and staffers at the Ministry Center. The building was filled with staffers from across the USA who will be serving in congressional offices. This allowed us time to pray, offer our support and invite them to the small groups and Bible studies we host.

  • The week prior to the 4th, Peggy Nienaber and Jonathan Alexandre participated in the annual International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit. We hosted a well-attended breakout session featuring Hal Shurtleff, founder of Camp Constitution and Jonathan Alexandre, senior counsel for governmental affairs for Liberty Counsel. Alexandra McPhee, director of government relations with Concerned Women for America, moderated the session discussing topics related to religious freedom on our doorstep.

  • Peggy attended the “In Solidarity with the Persecuted” congressional event. This was the premiere event for the IRF Summit. Testimonies from survivors of persecution offered a look into what the summit would focus on and the serious issues of religious freedom around the world.

COMING SOON

  • We are planning the upcoming Women on the Hill Congressional Prayer Breakfast. We look forward to inviting women members of Congress to pray and fellowship with them during this special time where we encourage them to put faith first.
  • Planning has begun for the annual Capitol Hill Police Officer Recognition Breakfast. This is our time to thank them for their service and to honor the officers who keep those who work on the Hill safe.
  • Our team will meet with summer congressional intern fellows to discuss the upcoming 24-hour prayer event to be held at our Ministry Center. We will be praying for our country, the world and for peace to prevail.
  • Our annual prayer retreat will be in August this year. During this time, we look to the Lord to guide and strengthen us for the strategic work to which He has called us, and we intentionally intercede for every one of our supporters—by name. Please submit your prayer requests to Patty Bills at the Faith & Liberty office by calling 202-737-1776 or emailing [email protected].

Our prophetic missionary work in Washington, D.C., continues during this critical time in history. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR PRAYER REQUEST.

We must all stay tuned in to what is happening in our nation’s capital. To stay informed on issues in Washington and play your part as a citizen and a Christian, look for Faith & Liberty's ACTION emails throughout the week. We are in this fight together for the soul of our nation.

PRAYER CONCERNS

Abortion: The overturning of Roe v. Wade has brought the darkness of deception further into the light. The heart of what is happening behind the closed doors of clinical exam rooms is being exposed. Even with the Supreme Court’s courageous opinion, Roe also must be overturned in the hearts and minds of women who feel that the baby inside them is theirs to do with what they want. Pray also for pregnancy resource centers that have been attacked, that they will be able to safely open and serve their communities.

Protection: Thank the Lord, with us, for His continued protection for the Supreme Court Justices. We are also thankful for the protection of our Faith & Liberty team and property. The pro-abortion protests have settled to some degree, but we realize they could ramp back up at any moment and likely will this week with the legislation being discussed in the halls of Congress.

Religious Freedom: Thank the Lord for important conversations that were had at the International Religious Freedom Summit and for great participation in our breakout session. Let us continue to pray that the results of the event would truly help the persecuted and bear fruit for God’s glory.

Our efforts to bring the Word of God to bear on the hearts and minds of our public policy makers are only possible because wonderful friends like you stand with us both in prayer and in your generous financial support! Thank you!

Make a difference and partner with us.
