Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

The Faith & Liberty Monday Report

Jan 24, 2022

Looking ahead, we could not have anticipated all the unusual happenings surrounding our Shurtleff v. City of Boston case at the Supreme Court and the Sanctity of Human Life month.

Not only did we have uncommonly ice-cold weather and snow for Washington, D.C., but we also had a minor flood on the first floor of the Ministry Center that scaled back some of our plans at the last minute. But never fear! All is well, thanks to some skilled help and your supportive prayers covering us.

On top of all that, the enemy of our souls didn’t like how we were speaking up for the preborn. During our prayers at the Remembering the Preborn—Flowers & Prayer Vigil on Saturday, a mob of self-described “devils” and “witches” showed up to purposely stir up and disturb the event. Although it was uncomfortable, God protected us. No doubt, your prayers also helped, so please continue to stand with us for those who cannot speak up for themselves.

You're a blessing!

Peggy Nienaber, Vice President

MONDAY RECAP

  • The Faith & Liberty team participated in a Prayer Vigil and Rally on Monday evening ahead of the Shurtleff v. City of Boston case at the Supreme Court.
  • We also held a Prayer Rally on Tuesday, the day of the case, in front of the Supreme Court with numerous speakers in support of the raising of the Christian flag.
  • We hosted a luncheon Tuesday at the Ministry Center for Hal Shurtleff and the Camp Constitution staff and Liberty Counsel legal team.
  • Peggy Nienaber met with key leaders in the pro-life movement. She attended Tim Tebow’s pro-life banquet last Thursday. A public figure defending the unborn, Tebow is a former professional football player for the Denver Broncos and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, as well as a professional baseball player with the NY Mets. As a preborn child, Tim was nearly aborted when his mother’s doctor was advised to abort him. Abby Johnson is a former Planned Parenthood director who is now a leader in the pro-life movement. Melissa Ohden, founder and director of The Abortion Survivors Network, is a survivor of a chemical abortion.
  • Peggy represented the Faith & Liberty team at Friday’s Pro-Life Congressional Breakfast. She was able to pray with members of Congress who stand for the preborn.
  • The March for Life began Friday with the National Prayer Service for the preborn and their mothers & fathers. This event at DAR Constitution Hall brought in pro-life leaders and clergy from many denominations.
  • Peggy prayed with several pastors at the Ten Commandments in front of the Ministry Center on Friday morning. They felt it was important to pray at that time as the Justices were in conference deciding on the outcome of the Shurtleff v. City of Boston Christian flag case.
  • Despite the bitter cold, pro-life marchers made their way to the Supreme Court on Friday. Faith & Liberty hosted VIP attendees and marchers from all across the United States with a small reception at the Ministry Center.

  • We held the Remembering the Preborn—Flowers & Prayer Vigil on Saturday. Peggy Nienaber and Jonathan Alexandre organized the press conference and prayer, handing out 3,000 flowers for attendees to lay in memory of aborted babies. Pro-abortion groups tried to drown out the event with loud music, yelling and dancing in costumes, but we succeeded in making a statement in support of lives lost due to abortion.

PRAYER CONCERNS

Let’s start with a big praise! Peggy spoke about the March for Life and related activities at King’s Church D.C. (which is active with us in ministry) on Sunday, and several Capitol Hill staffers in attendance gave their life to Christ. We pray that these new believers in Jesus become rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith (Col. 2:7).

We are thankful that Mat Staver was able to skillfully present the oral argument in the free speech case around the “Christian flag.” Even though the nine Justices of the Supreme Court have likely already made their decision, they still may change their minds. We expect victory in this case, but please keep praying through until the Court announces its ruling at the end of its current session.

We praise God for His protection during all the events of last week, from inclement weather to disruptive satanists!

Pray that the pro-life events of this Sanctity of Human Life month will bring about the saving of many lives and that God would be glorified.

Our efforts to bring the Word of God to bear on the hearts and minds of our public policy makers are only possible because wonderful friends like you stand with us both in prayer and in your generous financial support! Thank you!
