No Room: The Power of Those Two Words

Dec 25, 2021

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7).

No room.

While it seems almost an afterthought, think of the power of those two words! The word translated “inn” is not the usual word for a lodging place. Instead, it simply means an enclosure where travelers could drive their cattle for the night, and which might also have a few rooms where the travelers could stay. But even these sparse lodgings were full. Because of the census, strangers were crowding into the tiny village of Bethlehem, leaving no room for the miracle God that was about to visit upon the world.

No room for a miracle. Think about that! It wasn’t intentional—it was just the busyness of the matters at hand. The place was packed due to the influx of visitors, and no one was considering that God incarnate might appear in their midst—as had been promised!

How often Washington, D.C., is just like that inn. Filled with legislators, lobbyists, special interests and the press, the corridors of our nation's Capital building are consumed with considering matters of state. The pandemic! Inflation! Immigration! Infrastructure! The budget! So busy … such important issues! There’s no room for personal matters like faith or God—especially in this White House and Congress.

But Faith & Liberty is there to remind our policy makers of their responsibility to God and to His Word!

That’s why we do events like the Live Nativity. As the caravan walks in front of the U.S. Supreme Court and across from the Senate offices and the U.S. Capitol, it serves as a clear and unmistakable illustration to our national leaders of the miracle of the Incarnation. The presence of the Holy Family reminds our nation that this tiny baby, born in a manger so many years ago, is the one upon whose shoulders God has placed all government. And we need to make room for Him in governing!

While Christmas is a special time of year to proclaim the gospel to our nation’s leaders, this is the mission of Faith & Liberty the whole year through.

Would you consider making a generous year-end gift to make sure Faith & Liberty has the financial resources to further this mission in 2022? YOUR generous gift, no matter the size, will result in a bold and dramatic proclamation of the gospel to those on Capitol Hill.

On behalf of all of us at Faith & Liberty, we wish you and your family a blessed Christmas as we celebrate the birth of the greatest gift of all—Jesus Christ!
