Being present in our nation's capital means we have a front-seat view of what's  happening on Capitol Hill. We have this God-ordained vantage point directly across from the Supreme Court from which we can be salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16).

Remember the Sunday school ditty "This Little Light of Mine"? Children sing and shout wholeheartedly, "Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm going to let it shine, Let it shine, all the time, let it shine." The lyrics go on to urge children not to let Satan blow it out!

That simple Scripture-based song is a powerful reminder of Faith & Liberty's role here in Washington and of your steady support for our team. Thank you so much for standing with us in this important work that reaches far beyond our nation's capital!

THE MONDAY RECAP

• Representatives of the "Hallelujah Movement" met at the Ministry Center for prayer after singing and praying at the Chinese embassy. The movement got its name after millions gathered peacefully in the streets of Hong Kong in 2019 to cry out for freedom. The protesters became known for singing "Hallelujah to the Lord," which became their unofficial anthem. We are praying for Christians who have been persecuted for their faith and for those who are being held captive.

• Popular Christian author and speaker Heidi St. John stopped by for prayer. Heidi has been speaking on marriage, family and cultural issues for more than 15 years all over the country. While Heidi was in Washington meeting with members of Congress, Peggy Nienaber had the opportunity to pray with her and give her the spiritual support she needed.

• Peggy also met with Melissa Ohden, a survivor of a blotched abortion and the founder and director of The Abortion Survivors Network. Melissa testified last week during the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary hearing, "Protecting Roe: Why We Need the Women's Health Protection Act," speaking for human rights, human life and women's rights. "When there is a failed abortion, it forces us to think about Roe v. Wade," Melissa said. "It forces us to reflect and know this is a human being that we were attempting to abort. It is an uncomfortable conversation."

• Peggy met with a mission team from Olla, Louisiana. Her time with the team was encouraging as she shared about the Ministry Center and all of the outreach programs, including how our programs reach congressional staffers and members of Congress. We are thankful that the team prayed for the staff of Faith & Liberty.

COMING THIS WEEK

• Bible studies continue at the Ministry Center as more staffers and interns attend. These studies provide an opportunity to discuss topics of concern and learn and apply biblical principles to their lives. Pray with us for the participants' personal requests and work-related concerns. With closures still in place in many of the buildings and with a skeleton staff, staffers feel overwhelmed with their schedules and responsibilities.

• We are making plans for the Staffers, Interns and Alumni Summer Reception. This reception will provide a time to share, reflect and fellowship with the young adults (both staffers and interns) on Capitol Hill.

• The planning process continues this week for the International Religious Freedom (IRF) Summit, to be held here in Washington. We now have an intercessory prayer team in place to pray before and during the July 13-15 event. Prayer is an important part of the various stages of preparation for the IRF Summit as well as during the event itself.

• Peggy Nienaber will be participating in the release of the 2021 Trafficking in Persons Report with The Honorable Antony Blinken, secretary of state of the United States.

PRAYER CONCERNS

Pray that abortion survivor Melissa Ohden's testimony will continue to ring in the ears of those who heard her testimony at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. Pray that her message will continue to go forth in power, helping members of Congress fully grasp that the life of the unborn is ordained by God and abortion has no place in America.

Let us continue to intercede for the persecuted around the world. Some specific concerns are:

• For believers in Hong Kong to be able to freely practice their faith in Christ.
• For our brothers and sisters in the Lord who live under oppression in countries around the world and are imprisoned and tortured for their faith.
• Pray for this summer's International Religious Freedom Summit and for Peggy and the steering committee planning for the event.
