Why Was This Fire Chief Removed from Office?

Jun 10, 2021

Kelvin Cochran reached the peak of his career as Atlanta’s fire chief. He was a former administrator under Barack Obama of the U.S. Fire Administration and served in the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Why would you remove such an accomplished man from high office? Because he believes marriage is the union of one man and one woman. If passed, HR 5 would expand this injustice on a massive scale. Here’s why. — Faith & Liberty team

Kelvin Cochran was Atlanta’s fire chief with 30 years of distinguished service under his belt when LGBTQ activists made him a target.

Chief Cochran was active with his church men’s group, for whom he wrote a book on the biblical perspective of marriage and sexuality.

But deeply beholden to the radical LGBTQ agenda, the City of Atlanta suspended Cochran for writing the book. The city also demanded he attend “sensitivity” training before finally firing him.

Cochran sued the city and won after years of litigation. But if HR 5 passes, the injustice done to Chief Cochran will become commonplace.

HR 5 specifically revokes the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), passed unanimously in 1993 by the House and 97-3 in the Senate.

Without RFRA, churches, faith-based schools, employers and individuals will likely lose under the “Equality Act” because there are no exceptions or accommodations for deeply held religious beliefs.

Because the Equality Act revokes the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, it leaves people of faith without a defense.

Churches, Christian schools, employers, health care providers, pharmacists—everyone—will be forced to accept BOTH the radical LGBT and Q agenda as well as the pro-abortion agenda.

NO ONE will be safe, as no exemptions are allowed under HR 5.

No school, church, business or person will be allowed to separate boys from girls or men from women in housing, sleeping arrangements, restrooms, locker rooms, showers or sports. On demand, boys and men must be allowed to use female facilities under the outrageous Equality Act.

If HR 5 passes, you will be censored for biblical truths in what you say or share in a sermon, teaching, Bible study, discussion group, post or book.

BUT WORKING TOGETHER, WE CAN BEAT THIS DANGEROUS BILL!

We must flood every Senate office with a mountain of faxes and DEMAND they VOTE NO on the misnamed Equality Act. Its radical sponsors want to pass it in June, the so-called “Pride Month.” We must stop HR 5 at all costs. Rush your urgent fax to the Senate to stop the Equality Act. You should also sign our petition.

We are working with a group of senators to ensure Democrats cannot use their “voice vote” trick to slide the Equality Act into the appropriations bill (which only needs a simple majority to pass). These senators will need to take turns constantly being on the Senate floor every minute the Senate is in session. One objection will force a full vote, which is then subject to the 60-vote filibuster rule.

We have also been hosting leaders from the Changed Movement at the Ministry Center and are helping them as they meet with senators.

Finally, a word of encouragement. We are always amazed at how God can make the most beautiful things out of the worst circumstances.

Chief Cochran spent 30 years saving lives from earthly fires. After having his career unjustly taken, God gave Cochran a new job. Pastor Cochran now saves souls from spiritual fires!

God is making something beautiful of these past difficult months as well. Let’s commit to pray for our land, that it will return to the God-given biblical truths that once made us great. May God’s richest blessings be yours!
