Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Dec 13, 2019
Early Wednesday morning, December 4, our crew gathered at our Ministry Center, right across the street from the Supreme Court.
WILL YOU HELP US CONTINUE TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL ON CAPITOL HILL? - SELECT HERE
The Live Nativity began when Karen Knight appeared on the balcony to sing a powerful rendition of O Come All Ye Faithful. We read from the Gospel of Luke. Then, led by Faith & Liberty Vice-President , Peggy Nienaber, the Holy Family (with a beautiful live baby Jesus), shepherds, Wise Men, townspeople, goats, donkeys, a cow and a camel, we began making our way down the sidewalks to the front of the Supreme Court.
It was a beautiful day, as cabs, cars, and visitors from across the country and around the world stopped in amazement (it isn’t every day you see a live camel on the Hill) and took photos and videos. Office windows along the route were filled with smiling faces. Media gathered to take pictures and write their stories.
Met by a choir of 50 people, we stopped in front of the Supreme Court, prayed, read the Gospel of Luke account of the birth of Jesus, and Karen Knight, who for years played Noah’s wife at Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA, delivered a powerful rendition of O Holy Night. The emotions were high.
Hundreds of people as well as numerous members of the press gathered as Mat Staver, Faith & Liberty Chairman, explained the reasons why we do the Live Nativity.
This unique presentation of the birth of Christ reminds all on Capitol Hill that Christmas is really CHRISTmas, a celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ into the world to save us from our sin and bondage. Mat strongly emphasized the need for Jesus both as individuals and as a nation. The Live Nativity is also a clear testimony to our First Amendment rights as people of faith. If we can present this incredible living witness of Jesus in front of the Supreme Court, people across America can do the very same thing in their local communities.
It was a moving and successful experience; and bore witness to the miracle of Immanuel – God with us!
Thank you for your prayers and your generous support. Your petitions to heaven helped us overcome the forces arrayed against us – and your giving made this entire program possible.
There are bills to pay and your gifts will help us make certain all our expenses are covered.
May the miracle of the Incarnation fill your heart this Christmas season.
Yours for the Gospel,
Peggy Nienaber, Vice President
Mat Staver, Chairman
