Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
May 27, 2019
Since we first launched this unique missionary outreach to our nation’s public policy makers, we have faithfully recognized our valiant heroes whose ultimate sacrifices have kept America a free nation.
A walk through the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery is a sobering reminder of the price of liberty! We are grateful for the men and women who’ve served our nation with valor and distinction in the various branches of the US Military. Thank you!
Yet, on this Memorial Day 2019, radical and extreme forces daily wage a war against the religious liberty of our men and women in uniform.
Days ago, the intentionally misnamed Military Religious Freedom Foundation (a better name would be the Military Anti-Religious Freedom Foundation) filed a lawsuit asking the Department of Veterans Affairs to remove the Bible from the traditional Missing Man table display at the Manchester VA Medical Center.
For decades, institutions across America, including VA hospitals, have recognized those missing in action or prisoners of war through the Missing Man Table and Honors Ceremony. Part of the table display is a Bible, which is meant to “represent the strength gained through faith to sustain us and those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.”
Now, radicals like the Military Religious Freedom Foundation want the Bible removed!
Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma recently wrote a letter to Robert Wilkie, the Secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, seeking to protect the Bible as a vital part of the Missing Man table displays in VA Hospitals and other government institutions. Sen. Lankford stated,
As VA’s guidance correctly notes, the Establishment Clause exists to ensure that the government cannot affirmatively impose or elevate one religion over another. However, it does not prohibit the government from referencing religion altogether, nor does it require that the government scrub all references of religion from the public sphere.
We agree! And we commend Senator Lankford for standing up to the anti-religious bullies at the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.
To force the removal of the Bible from the Missing Man Table displays is a violation of the very freedoms, including religious freedom, for which our military heroes paid the ultimate price.
As your missionaries to Capitol Hill, we work every day to protect the religious freedom of every American – including those in our nation’s military services. And by God’s grace we will continue to do so.
Let's all take a moment today to remember our fallen heroes...and to pray for our nation, that we will remain ONE NATION, UNDER GOD!
God bless you! Have a blessed Memorial Day!
