Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital
Apr 26, 2019
Imagine it is the middle of the night in Washington, DC. It's dark outside and there is a stillness over Capitol Hill. There isn't much noise except for the steady voice of a person reading aloud from a book on the steps of Capitol -- and not just any book. The words going out over Capitol Hill are the words of God.
This is quite a scene and one that happens annually in Washington, DC as part of the DC Bible Reading Marathon. This year, the Bible Reading Marathon will take place April 28-May 2, during which God's Holy Word will be read out loud, day and night, rain or shine, for ninety consecutive hours on the steps of the Capitol.
The mission of Faith & Liberty is to bring the Word of God to bear on the hearts and minds of those that make public policy in America. One of the ways through which we accomplish this mission is our participation in the US Capitol Bible Reading Marathon. This year Peggy Nienaber, our Vice-President, and Rev. Greg Cox, our Lead Missionary will lead prayer in the opening ceremonies as well as participate in reading during the 90 hours. We also have members of Congress as well as Faith & Liberty supporters who will be reading scripture during the marathon.
This is a powerful outreach opportunity and one that comes at a critical time. HR 5 is an example of the dangers our nation faces when our national our national leaders ignore God's commandments.
As I mentioned in my email last week, HR 5, or the 'Equality Act,' is a dangerous bill currently being considered in Congress. The bill forces the adoption of a radical LGBT agenda that threatens every church, school, college, and religious organization in America. Faith & Liberty is committed to fight against it through speaking out, educating, and praying, both inside and outside the halls of Congress. If you missed my last message, you can learn more about the dangers of HR 5, HERE.
If you have yet to sign the petition against HR 5, we need your signature now. As HR 5 is expected to pass in the House, these signatures will be critical in the Senate to let them know this bill is unacceptable.
In addition, please take a moment to make your immediate, online gift to support Faith & Liberty. It is only because of your prayers and support that we can be your missionaries to the nation's capital.
Your missionaries to Capitol Hill,
Peggy Nienaber, Vice-President
Mat Staver, Chairman
Greg Cox, Lead Missionary
P.S. If you will be in the Washington DC area during the DC Bible Reading Marathon, there are still reading time slots available. For more information or to register to read, visit www.dcbiblemarathon.org. Please pray for everyone taking part and for those who will be passing by. It may be that some will hear the Word of God for the very first time.
