Transforming lives with Good News in the Nation’s Capital

Press Release: Tribute to Peggy Nienaber and Her Legacy

Apr 8, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC – Last night, April 7, at 10:28 p.m., our dear friend and colleague, Peggy Nienaber, passed from this earthly life to the arms of Jesus. Peggy served as Senior Vice President of Faith & Liberty, a Christian ministry bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people in the Nation’s Capital through prayer, Bible studies, worship, fellowship, and pastoral care.

Peggy loved the Lord and loved people. She was full of life and energy. Peggy was passionately devoted to the ministry and her calling. She served on Capitol Hill for at least 40 years. Her work on the Hill began with Art Linkletter. She then joined Bill Murray, the son of Madelyn Murray O’Hare. As a young child, Bill was the plaintiff used by his atheist mother to remove the reading for the Bible from public schools. Bill accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and founded a Christian ministry.

Peggy then joined Faith & Action in 1994, which then became Faith & Liberty when Liberty Counsel acquired, modified, and expanded it in 2017. Peggy was freed to spread her wings and fly without the administrative constraints she labored under for many years. Her ministry through Faith & Liberty expanded. Peggy never met a stranger. She was a friend to everyone. Her ministry was not partisan or political but spiritual and supportive.

Through Peggy’s leadership, scores of interns, staffers, and members of Congress participated in Bible studies and prayer. The ministry of Faith & Liberty includes the annual Live Nativity with a camel, donkeys, sheep, and people dressed in first-century garb along with a newborn baby depicting the Baby Jesus. The procession has attracted the attention of national news outlets and all levels of government in the nation’s capital.

Faith & Liberty also hosts the Congressional Bible Reading and participates in the annual Bible Reading Marathon, where the Bible is read nonstop from Genesis to Revelation leading up to the National Day of Prayer. In her role at Faith & Liberty, Peggy also hosted the annual awards recognition of law enforcement and first responders in Washington, D.C. Peggy coordinated many events, including the annual laying of flowers in front of the U.S. Supreme Court as a memorial to the millions of unborn babies who lost their lives through abortion.

Peggy led the Congressional Women’s Bible Study inside the U.S. Capitol and oversaw many Congressional Bible studies on Capitol Hill.  Peggy also served as President of the Capitol Forum Club, a meeting held inside the U.S. Capitol, and served as the Chairwoman of the Religious Freedom Coalition Board of Directors.

Peggy was actively involved with Pro-Life, Pro-Family, and Religious Freedom issues working formerly as a special assistant to celebrity Art Linkletter and legendary singer Pat Boone promoting senior issues. She was involved in prayer teams that led to the confirmation of four U.S. Supreme Court Justices along with the election of many Members of Congress, and the passing of many bills in Congress.

Peggy was recognized as one of the Christian Women of Distinction in the United States of America in 2021 by Congresswoman Lisa McClain and She Leads America. A Certificate of Congressional Recognition for her tireless work and leadership on Capitol Hill went into the Congressional Record of Proceedings & Debates of the 117th Congress.

Peggy was an NGO Liaison for the United Nations in New York and participated in the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women, World Congress of Families in Poland, and was involved in changing opinions and the resolutions passed by the United Nations.

Peggy has appeared on numerous radio talk shows and national television programs. Peggy also co-directed the Fox & Friends “True Meaning of Christmas” and Christmas Eve Special for five years.

Peggy has two children, five grandchildren, and a dog named Newman. Peggy’s twin sister, Patty Bills, continues to work with Faith & Liberty.

“I have never met anyone like Peggy Nienaber. She was a bundle of life and energy. Her enthusiasm was infectious and always positive. Peggy was devoted to our Lord Jesus and passionate about serving him through the ministry of Faith & Liberty. She will be greatly missed. While we grieve her passing from this life, we celebrate knowing that she is in the arms of Jesus. Peggy left a legacy that echoes in the lives of people and resonates throughout the nation’s capital. Her legacy will live on through eternity.” – Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman, Liberty Counsel and Faith & Liberty

“For over 20 years I’ve been privileged to work with Peggy in bringing the Word of God to bear on the hearts and minds of our national leaders. With a tenacious spirit and inimitable style, Peggy was a tireless champion of the Gospel with a profound impact in Washington, D.C. Without question, she fought the good fight, kept the faith, and was joyously received into the arms of the Lord she loved and served.” – Greg Cox, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Liberty Counsel and Lead Missionary, Faith & Liberty

“Peggy was the engine that drove evangelistic ministry in D.C. — but even more than that, she was the fuel, the battery, and the light that made the path clear for others. Working with Peggy was a joyful, unforgettable ride—full of energy, purpose, and faith. I am deeply grateful that she has now reached her destination. She has truly earned her rest.” – Jonathan Alexandre, Vice President of Governmental Affairs and Senior Counsel, Liberty Counsel
