WASHINGTON, D.C. – Faith & Liberty will host “Prayers & Remembrance: Victims of Roe” on the west side of the U.S. Supreme Court at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22.
During this prayer vigil, participants will place 3,000 flowers on the sidewalk in front of the High Court in honor of the approximate number of American babies who are aborted every day. Speakers will offer reflection, prayers and/or Bible verses to honor the sanctity of human life and Mr. Israel Olayinka-Israel will sing at the event. The speakers will include Liberty Counsel Vice President of Strategic Partnerships Rev. Gregory Cox, Faith & Liberty Senior Vice President Peggy Nienaber, and Liberty Counsel Vice President of Governmental Affairs Jonathan Alexandre.
The event’s livestream can be viewed here on Faith and Liberty’s Facebook page.
January 22 is designated as the National Sanctity of Human Life Day. This year marks the 52nd year since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the abortion opinions Roe v. Wade, along with its companion case Doe v. Bolton, which had opened the doors in 1973 to killing pre-born babies for any reason and at any stage of development. Since that tragic day in 1973, more than 65 million innocent children have been brutally killed by abortion.
When the U.S. Supreme Court finally overturned the Roe v. Wade and the 1992 Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey abortion decisions on June 24, 2022, the battle moved to individual states and intensified. Currently, at least 13 states have near-total abortion bans in effect while four states have active six-week “heartbeat” laws.
However, America must never forget the millions of children who have died, and will continue to die, at the hands of abortionists.
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating January 22 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day. Part of the proclamation states: “I call upon the citizens of this blessed land to gather on that day in homes and places of worship to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life.”
Faith & Liberty Senior Vice President Peggy Nienaber said, “January 22, 1973 is a day that unleashed human genocide in America. Abortion kills innocent children and destroys the dignity of women. Ultimately, it is rebellion against God, the author of human life, and we must stop the slaughter of unborn babies and repent of this terrible sin. We will continue fighting the battle to make the womb a safe place again.”
